Dane Dunning is missing his next start after going on the Paternity Leave List for the birth his son.
Dune Dunning won’t be making his previously-scheduled start Sunday for the Texas Rangers in the finale of the Baltimore Orioles series.
And for very good reason.
Dane and RachelDunning are the proud new parents of a son, with dad making the announcement Saturday on Twitter.
“Welcome to the world, baby Mack!” Dane Dunning posted. “Momma and little man are both doing amazing. We are so in love!”
Dunning was placed on the MLB’s paternity leave list before Saturday’s game against Baltimore. He can remain on leave for up to 72 hours.
The Rangers will be missing one of the hottest pitchers in baseball. Dunning is 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 12 games starts for Texas in 2023, including 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA spanning four starts since replacing an injured Jacob deGrom in the rotation in early May.
Dunning and Minnesota Twins’ Sonny Gray are the only pitchers this season who have logged 40-or-more innings pitched without allowing a home run.
Rookie left-hander Cody Bradford was called up from Triple-A Round Rock to make his second start. The native of Aledo, which is west of Fort Worth, made his MLB debut on May 15 against the Atlanta Braves.
