Josh Jung and Corey Seager blasted home runs in the second inning Sunday afternoon, as the Texas Rangers assumed control of the series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
The American League West-leading Rangers are going for their third sweep this season. A 5-0 lead after two innings at Globe Life Field certainly will help.
Jung started the scoring with a solo shot to left off Rockies starter Connor Seabold. The 405-foot blast was Jung’s ninth of the season, which is tied for the most among rookies.
The Rangers staged a two-out rally to continue the onslaught. Marcus Semien doubled to score Ezequiel Duran and Leody Taveras, bringing up Seager.
Starting at designated hitter for the second time since returning from the injured list, Seager deposited a Seabold offering 383 feet to right. Seager, who struck out in the first, is 5-for-13 with two homers and seven RBI since coming back.
After winning the first two games of the series, the second-inning explosion has Rangers starter Andrew Heaney in good position to pick up a win and even his record at 3-3.
