The Red Sox are looking to replace Rob Refsynder.

I want to refer you to a portion of a column that we wrote just a few days ago here at Red Sox Roundtable:

The Boston Red Sox roster, as currently constructed, is clunky.

The Red Sox have five outfielders (Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony and Masataka Yoshida) for three outfield spots and the designated hitter.

Four of those five are left-handed, and the team hasn't found a replacement for the Rob Refsnyder "lefty masher" role. The team doesn't know if it wants to play Kristian Campbell at second base, start him in Triple-A or change his position again, and we've heard rumors that Romy Gonzalez and David Hamilton could end up in a platoon at second base.

Allow me to think outside the box and solve some of the Red Sox' issues in one move: Signing Miguel Andujar.

So, I suggested Andujar as someone who hits left-handed pitching well, can play the outfield, but can also play in the infield. I still think he's a perfect suggestion.

While it's unclear if the Red sox agree with me specifically on Andujar, it is clear that they feel similarly about their roster needs, as noted by The Athletic late on Tuesday.

While acquiring a right-handed infielder stands as more of a priority for the Boston Red Sox, the club is also exploring the possibility of adding a right-handed hitting outfielder, league sources said.

Again, Andujar accomplishes both goals, but if Boston is looking for an outfielder only, here are the best bets among current free agents.

Starling Marte

Now 37 years old, Marte is a 14-year veteran of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Miami Marlins, Athletics and New York Mets. A two-time All-Star, he has 163 home runs and 361 stolen bases. He is the active MLB leader in steals and triples (55).

Last season, he hit .270 in 98 games for New York with nine home runs. He had a .733 OPS against lefties last season.

Tommy Pham

About to turn 38, Pham is a 12-year veteran who has spent parts of the 2022 with the Red Sox. A career .256 hitter, he has 149 home runs and 131 stolen bases. He has eight seasons of double-digit home runs, including 10 for the Pirates in 2025. He had a .651 OPS against lefties a season ago.

Randal Grichuk

Now 34 years old, Grichuk is a 12-year veteran who spent the first four years of his career with the Cardinals. A career .251 hitter, he hit .228 for the Diamondbacks and Royals a season ago. He has 10 seasons of double-digit home runs, including 31 for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019. He had a .703 OPS against lefties in 2025.

Austin Slater

A nine-year veteran of the Giants, Reds, Orioles, White Sox and Yankees, Slater is a .248 career hitter who hit .216 a season ago. He has 45 career home runs and has hit .267 against lefties in his career.

Hunter Renfroe

Now 34 years old, Renfroe is a 10-year veteran who has 192 career home runs. He hit 15 home runs for the 2024 Royals but hit just .182 in 35 games before being let go in 2025. Lifetime, he's a .236 career hitter.

He had 31 homers for the Red Sox in 2021 as they got to the American League Championship Series.
