Hard throwing right-hander Tyron Guerrero has been a revelation for the Red Sox bullpen in 2026.
It’s been a busy Tuesday on the transaction front for the Boston Red Sox as they added utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa and starter Jedixson Paez to the active roster as part of September call-ups. Ahead of Tuesday night’s matchup against the Seattle Mariners, the team also announced that right-handed reliever Tyron Guerrero was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
About Guerrero
After spending the 2025 season with the Chibbe Lotte Marines of Japan’s Nippon Professional League, Guerrero signed a minor league deal with Boston ahead of the 2026 season. In his first major league action since 2019, the 35-year-old flamethrower has been a revelation for the Boston bullpen, posting a 3.26 ERA in 38.2 innings.

Eric Canha-Imagn ImagesAfter walking 5.7 batters per nine innings in his first three seasons in the big leagues from 2016-19, Guerrero has harnessed his electric stuff, walking only 1.6 batters per nine in 2026, the 10th-lowest rate among relievers with at least 30 innings pitched. After posting a 2.16 ERA in his first 24 appearances of the season, Guerrero has struggled as of late, allowing eight earned runs in his last 13.2 innings of work, good for a 5.12 ERA.
To take Guerrero’s place on the active roster, Boston has recalled right-hander Wyatt Olds from Triple-A Worcester.

Olds performed well in his first taste of big league action, allowing three unearned runs on four hits, striking out eight and walking three across six innings of work after being promoted from Worcester on Aug. 17.
In 39 relief appearances, spanning 50.2 innings for Worcester in 2026, Olds has posted a 5.33 ERA. Despite the rough ERA, Olds has held opponents to a .205 batting average, a fielding-independent pitching (FIP) of 4.36, and an expected ERA of 3.91, suggesting he may have been the victim of some poor luck in his outings.

The Red Sox will look to take the series from the Mariners in game two of three from Fenway Park on Tuesday night. Paez (0-0, 18.00 ERA) will make his Red Sox debut as he gets the start for Boston opposite Bryan Woo (9-9, 4.38 ERA) for Seattle. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m. ET.
