The Boston Red Sox will be going into the offseason coming off their best their best season since 2021.
The Red Sox made it to the American League Wild Card series, their first postseason berth in four years, and lost the closely-contested three-game series to American League East rivals the New York Yankees.
Boston shook up the franchise midseason by trading franchise superstar third baseman/designated hitter Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. The Red Sox ended up making the playoffs while the Giants missed the postseason.
Dating back to last offseason, several Red Sox players were also in the trade rumor mill. And several of those players were including in a list of the top 40 trade candidates this offseason from MLB Trade Rumors.
Outfielder Jarren Duran was ranked No. 12 on the list, Outfielder Wilyer Abreu was ranked No. 13 on the list and first baseman Triston Casas was ranked No. 24.
Duran is potentially under team control until 2028. He has an $8 million club option in 2026.
Duran scored 86 runs in 157 games and hit 41 doubles, 13 triples and 16 home runs with 84 RBIs. He slashed .256/.332/.442 with a .774 OPS.
Abreu is under team control through 2029 and is up for pre-arbitration in 2026.
Abreu scored 53 times in 115 games and hit 17 doubles and 22 homers with 69 RBIs. He slashed .247/.317/.469 with a .786 OPS.
Casas is under team control through 2028 and is projected to earn $1.7 million in arbitration in 2026.
Casas missed most of the season with a left patellar tendon rupture. He scored five runs in 29 games and hit three doubles and three homers with 11 RBIs. He slashed .182/.277/.303 with a .580 OPS.
Boston has several top-tier prospects that have been up-and-down between the farm system and major league club, and a trade from any of the three aforementioned players could clear up the roster enough to filter those top-tier minor leaguers in.
Casas was tied to trade rumors with the Seattle Mariners for starting pitcher Luis Castillo last offseason, and Duran's name has floated in trade rumors the last two trade deadlines.
