It was a fantastic week for a pair of Portland Sea Dogs as infielder Henry Godbout and pitcher Hayden Mullins took home Eastern League awards.

RedSoxRoundtable's Zach Coe discusses the emergence of infield prospect Henry Godbout, who has performed incredibly well since being promoted to Double-A Portland on Aug. 11. Be sure to join our FREE community over on RedSoxRoundtable.com! More Videos

For much of the season, the Boston Red Sox had one of the best farm systems, led by pitchers Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoo and breakout shortstop Franklin Arias. Now, after dealing both Eyanson and Witherspoon, along with fellow top-10 organizational prospect Enddy Azocar in a trade-deadline blockbuster for All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, the Red Sox system has taken a big hit in Baseball America's latest rankings. It's now led by Arias and a handful of prospects with questions about their ceilings that still have to be answered.

Among those prospects are No. 5-rated prospect infielder Henry Godbout and No. 23-ranked pitcher Hayden Mullins, both of whom took home Eastern League Player of the Week honors for their strong play with Double-A Portland.

About Godbout

The 22-year-old was selected out of the University of Virginia with the second-round compensation pick Boston received for starter Nick Pivetta signing with the San Diego Padres ahead of the 2025 season. After appearing in 13 games with High-A Greenville to end 2025, Godbout returned to the level to start the 2026 season, where he hit .277/.410/.492/.902 with seven home runs and seven doubles in 34 games before a hit-by-pitch on May 31 broke his wrist, landing him on the injured list for nearly two months.

Upon his return from the wrist injury, Godbout was promptly promoted to Double-A Portland. In 19 games with the Sea Dogs, Godbout has continued to swing a good bat, hitting .286/.333/.623/.956 with eight home runs and two doubles. Over the last week, he has dominated the competition, hitting .455/.455/1.045/1.500 with four home runs, one double, and six RBI en route to Eastern League hitter of the week honors.

Godbout fits the mold of players Boston has drafted in recent years, in that he possesses a strong command of the strike zone and great bat-to-ball skills, but struggles to generate in-game power, which the organization feels it can develop once he’s in the system.

Godbout is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the organization per SoxProspects.com.

About Mullins

The 25-year-old left-hander was selected by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Auburn. While he is on the older side for the level, injuries have stunted his development. Mullins underwent Tommy John Surgery prior to being drafted, which delayed his debut until late 2023.

After posting a 2.44 ERA in 18 appearances with Portland in 2025, Mullins was reassigned to the level for the 2026 season, where he posted a 4.15 ERA in 21 appearances, 19 of which were starts. He was briefly promoted to Triple-A as Worcester was desperate for arms, tossing three innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three and walking four before being sent back to Portland.

In his most recent outing on Sept. 2, Mullins tossed six shutout innings, allowing only one hit while matching a career-high in strikeouts with 10, earning him the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors.

According to SoxProspects.com, Mullins is a “Potential up-and-down reliever. Ceiling of a seventh-inning reliever. Intriguing arm who could move quickly if moved into a pure relief role. Needs to tighten up his command and control, but fastball/slider combination has premium bat-missing ability.” He is currently ranked as the No. 23 prospect in the organization.

Up next for the Sox

Meanwhile, back in Boston, the Red Sox will look to extend their winning streak to six and clinch a series win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night in game two of a three-game set from Fenway Park. Patrick Sandoval (1-4, 4.41 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Reid Detmers (4-8, 3.44 ERA) for Los Angeles. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m. ET.
