After suffering a series-opening loss to the Detroit Tigers on Friday, the Colorado Rockies are nearing a week without a win.

The Colorado Rockies’ losing streak extended to five games on Friday after falling to the Detroit Tigers, 6-2, in their series opener at Comerica Park.

Colorado’s latest loss is also its 92nd of the season. How did it occur?

Couldn’t convert

This season, the Rockies’ offense has been one of the only bright spots for an otherwise deeply flawed and lacking team.

However, during this losing streak, it has not been showing up.

The runs Colorado put up on Friday marked the fourth time in this losing streak that it has scored three runs or fewer. The Rockies notched 10 hits in 36 at-bats, which is not bad, but they could not turn them into anything most of the time.

The first four innings were a scoreless affair, and in the top of the fifth, Colorado struck first through a small-ball effort in which Troy Johnston, Jordan Beck and Jake McCarthy notched singles.

Then, Ezequiel Tovar — who reached on a fielder’s choice earlier in the frame — finally got across home plate thanks to a fielding error that also saw Cole Carrigg reach safely.

However, the Tigers tied the game with one swing of Max Clark’s bat that sent a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth. From there, the game belonged to Detroit.

For the remainder of the game, the Rockies registered four more hits that they could not turn into points, and the Tigers scored four runs in the sixth inning to break away.

Reliever let down

It was also a night in which Colorado’s starting pitching was decent enough, but the bullpen fell short.

Rookie right-hander Mason Adams got the starting nod, and the 26-year-old struck out five batters and allowed two hits, one earned run and three walks in five innings of work. Once manager Warren Schaeffer pulled him off the mound, though, the effort was in vain.

Mark Manfredi, Nick Frasso and Blas Castano each got a turn on the hill, and the first two pitchers gave up walks and two earned runs each, while Castano gave up one earned run. Had their effort been better, perhaps the Rockies would have remained in the game.

Nothing about the last week has gone Colorado’s way, as it has only one win in its last seven games. Then again, nothing has gone the Rockies’ way for most of this season.

With 15 games left in the 2026 Major League Baseball season left for this organization, we are officially on 100-loss watch once again. If the Rockies reach that mark, it will be the fourth year in a row in which they have done so.
