The Colorado Rockies are coming off being swept by the New York Yankees. Now, they turn their attention to the Detroit Tigers.

On Friday night, the Colorado Rockies are opening a three-game weekend series at Comerica Park in Detroit against the Detroit Tigers.

For those Rockies fans keeping up with the franchise at this point of the season, the ballclub is creeping closer to that 100-loss mark. That trend can change, though, if Colorado can either pick up two wins or even a sweep against the Tigers.

Detroit has been working hard to get its equilibrium back after the franchise traded two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. The Tigers made the postseason last season and they are going to have to really push if that's to repeat this season.

Entering Friday night's game, Detroit is 6.5 games behind in the American League Wild Card race. The Tigers' number to be eliminated from postseason consideration is seven.

Colorado is seeing its space between losing and not losing 100 games this season grow a bit tighter. After losing three in the Bronx, the Rockies are nine losses away from the century mark in defeats. If Colorado can just lose eight more games, then that 100-mark loss will be avoided.

Can catcher Hunter Goodman, third baseman Kyle Karros, and the rest of the Rockies' lineup put some key hits together? It's time to see what happens this weekend.

Rockies vs. Tigers Probable Starters

The Rockies and Tigers are sending out pitchers with ERAs at or near the four level to start these three games. It'll be interesting to see if one of them can put together a stellar outing for the teams.

Friday, Sept. 11: RHP Mason Adams (0-0, 3.95 ERA) vs. LHP Framber Valdez (9-10, 4.17)

Mason Adams uses four main pitches when he's on the mound: four-seam fastball, sinker, curveball, and sweeper. He can also throw a changeup and cutter at times, too.

Framber Valdez is in his first season after signing with the Tigers as a free agent. It's fair to say that the results this season have been less than stellar. He gets a chance to show Detroit down the stretch that he's worth his big-money contract.

Saturday, Sept. 12: RHP Tanner Gordon (1-4, 5.40) vs. TBD

The Tigers have not named a starting pitcher yet for Saturday, so let's discuss Tanner Gordon a bit. He really leans into throwing a four-seam fastball more than a third of a time in his starts. A slider and changeup are two other pitches that Gordon leans into as well.

Sunday, Sept. 13: RHP Gabriel Hughes (0-7, 5.81) vs. RHP Jackson Jobe (1-2, 4.45)

These two pitchers will need to come out early on Sunday morning and prove which one is going to dominate. If Hughes can find a way to get ahead of hitters early, then he can establish his pitches from the get-go.

Game Times/TV-Radio

All three games of this series will be shown by Rockies.TV with a Friday night first-pitch set for 4:40 MT. On Saturday, it'll be a morning start at Comerica Park at 11:10 a.m. MT. Then, on Sunday, a first pitch is scheduled for 10:10 a.m.

Rockies fans can tune into the games on local radio in the Greater Denver metropolitan area on KOA Radio.
