Mason Adams stepped up and pitched a solid initial MLB outing in his debut with the Colorado Rockies.
Mason Adams, who came over to the Colorado Rockies in a trade earlier this season with the Chicago White Sox, got a chance to show his stuff off on Tuesday night.
Adams, the Rockies' No. 20 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, worked four innings and gave up the lone run that the Washington Nationals scored. Meanwhile, the Rockies managed to put up three runs of offense and that was enough. Colorado beat Washington 3-1 at Nationals Park on Tuesday night.
Adams was called up from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Besides going for innings and allowing just one run, Adams walked three Nationals, struck out five, and gave up a home run to Daylen Lyle.
He could be forgiven for giving up that Lyle home run because he's been one of the best hitters in the Nationals lineup this season.
“I attacked with all my stuff,” Adams said, according to MLB.com. “I got to two strikes pretty quickly quite a few times, then they extended the at-bat. But I liked the game plan.”
But Colorado sure saw some good news as catcher Hunter Goodman was back in the team's lineup on Tuesday night. Goodman smashed his 35th home run this season, a solo shot that came in the top of the fourth inning. Connor Norby followed that with a two-out RBI double to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.
Colorado picked up its third run in the game as Jordan Beck scored on a wild pitch delivered when Cole Carrigg struck out. The Rockies are now 51-81 on the season, and doing their best to avoid a 100-loss season.
Now, with Adams up for potentially the rest of the 2026 MLB season, will there be additional pitchers brought up from Albuquerque? Of course, a lot of Colorado fans are antsy to see Charlie Condon take some at-bats at the MLB level.
But the team also needs to focus on not reaching that 100-defeat plateau. If Colorado can avoid that before the final game this season, then fans might consider that progress. It's also noteworthy to point out that the Rockies already have more wins than they did throughout the entire 2025 season.
That is marked progress right there. Colorado has shown marked improvement in the first full year under Warren Schaeffer, who took over after Bud Black was fired last season.
The Rockies have a history of being a playoff franchise, yet the fans also have had to deal with some pretty awful seasons as well. Now, everyone waits to see what happens for the rest of the 2026 season.
