Two more home runs for Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman helps his team storm past the Kansas City Royals.
For those teams active at the MLB Trade Deadline, watching Hunter Goodman go yard twice for the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night piqued their interest.
Goodman went 4-for-5 with those two home runs, five RBIs, and two runs scored in Colorado's victory over the Kansas City Royals at Coors Field. Goodman now has 33 home runs this season, a solid number as a catcher in the major leagues.
It was a good time for Goodman to remind Rockies fans (as if they needed reminders) that he's a main cog in the lineup. Those reminders also should be observed by Colorado president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes.
Trade Deadline coming up
The MLB Trade Deadline ends on Monday, Aug. 3, at 6 p.m. ET. The Rockies have now clinched a series win over Kansas City and will look for a series sweep on Sunday.
Now, the question might be is this one of Goodman's final games with the Rockies? Again, it would be a shame to see him go. Prospects, though, might be more important to the franchise at this point than Goodman.
Goodman hit his 32nd home run, a three-run blast, in the third inning, then followed that up with a solo shot in the seventh inning for 33 homers. Willi Castro, whose name also has been involved in some trade discussions, hit his 12th home run this season. That, too, was a solo blast.
Colorado starter Ryan Feltner picked up the win, going to 4-5 this season. Feltner worked six innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, walked one, struck out three, and gave up two home runs.
Rockies' bullpen looked good
Victor Vodnik, Juan Mejia, and Jimmy Herget worked the final three innings for Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer. That was a solid night for a Rockies' bullpen that has struggled a lot in the 2026 MLB season.
Kansas City jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Colorado answered with six runs in their half of the third. The Rockies added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. Colorado put the cherry on top of the victory cake with three runs in their half of the eighth inning.
Colorado was 6-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight total runners on base.
Kyle Karros and Jake McCarthy added doubles as part of the Rockies' 16-hit attack. Five Colorado players had multi-hit games, led by Goodman going 4-for-5. McCarthy, too, has been mentioned in plenty of trade chatter in the past number of days.
Final score: Rockies 12, Royals 6.
The Rockies are now 44-67 this season and still in last place in the National League West Division. This weekend series wraps up on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field in the Mile High City.
