If you had any doubts, then let them go away. The Colorado Rockies are, indeed, sellers at the MLB Trade Deadline.
The deadline ends on Monday, Aug. 3, at 6 p.m. ET. That gives Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes time to put together a trade or two or, maybe, even three.
Sure, Colorado defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Friday night at Coors Field. That's not going to change the focus on improving the franchise in DePodesta and Byrnes' minds,
Once again, the Rockies are owners of last place in the National League West Division. The record doesn't show it, but the team has been better this season than in 2025. It's not a hard stretch from looking at Colorado last season compared to this season.
Win-loss record better than 2025
The current win-loss record shows the Rockies 20-plus games below .500. It was much worse last season, and this year's team has some players who show grit and intensity on the field.
The biggest name tossed around in trade talk is catcher Hunter Goodman. He's been the bell cow in the Colorado lineup, mashing home runs even as a catcher. Some ballclub probably wants to add his bat heading into the postseason.
At the same time, Goodman's name also has been attached to reports that the Rockies are not going to move him at all. What side do you take? Obviously, I believe that the team should keep Goodman beyond the trade deadline.
He has the opportunity to be a cornerstone of the Rockies' offense going forward. The Rockies' management does have an opportunity to build a team around Goodman, instead of just trading a player for prospects.
That mindset, though, might not be passed down when thinking of Jake McCarthy or Mickey Moniak. McCarthy is a heck of a player, never giving up whether in the field or running down the basepaths.
Moniak has been a part of the Rockies' franchise and has been through the tough times.
Who else are sellers in MLB?
On Saturday morning, MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic headed out to X and offered some clarity on which teams really will be sellers right now.
Bowden wrote, "24 of the 30 MLB Teams are presently within 4.5 games of a playoff spot making the only 5 real sellers the Mets, Rockies, Giants, Royals & Angels. Athletics are NOT selling.
Five sellers means these ballclubs are not in postseason consideration at all.
If Rockies fans are ticked, then think about all of those New York Mets fans watching a high-paying ballclub not even able to perform well. That's a ton of money that Mets owner Steve Cohen put on the table to get the Mets into the postseason chatter.
Now, they are among MLB's highlighted sellers.
There are less than 72 hours left ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. Time is of the essence for DePodesta and Byrnes.
