Kyle Karros walked off the field after a scary collision between him and Ezequiel Tovar on Tuesday night. The Colorado Rockies, though, put him in concussion protocol right after the game. Tomoyuki Sugano came through for the team, too.
Update at 3:05 p.m. ET: The Rockies placed Kyle Karros on the seven-day concussion Injured List on Wednesday.

While Colorado Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros walked off the Chase Field infield under his own power, that didn't keep the ballclub from putting him into concussion protocol.
On Tuesday night, Karros and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar were both trying to field a groundball hit off the bat of Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Karros and Tovar collided as they didn't see one another.
Tovar went down in a heap, but managed to keep on playing. Karros, though, stayed on the ground for some time. Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer and a member of the team's medical staff came out to check on him.
After some time, Karros got up and walked off the field. He was replaced at third base for the rest of the game.
“He’s going to be in the concussion protocol, so we’ll have an update tomorrow,” Schaeffer said according to MLB.com just after the final out. “He's doing it right now.”
Obviously, Karros playing in Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Diamondbacks looks a bit iffy at this time. Rockies fans probably should expect to see Karros in the dugout for this one.
With their 3-2 win over Arizona, the Rockies didn't gain any ground in trying to get to fourth place in the National League West Division. The San Francisco Giants also won on Tuesday night, keeping them a few games ahead of Colorado.
Tomoyuki Sugano ended up having a stellar start for the Rockies. He went six innings and kept the Diamondbacks' bats pretty much in check. Things didn't look so rosy in the first inning, when he gave up solo home runs to Marte and Corbin Carroll.
Now 12-5 this season, Sugano is clearly the ace of a struggling Rockies' pitching staff. There had been some trade chatter around his name. Colorado didn't trade him which, for a ballclub with more losses than wins this season, is good news.
In the series finale on Wednesday afternoon, Ryan Feltner will be called upon to deliver in a big way. The Rockies are looking to win their first series in Arizona going all the way back to 2022.
The Rockies need some good news, any good news, as their season begins to wind down. Sugano's impressive statistics and record are worth some highlights after game No. 162. Let's see if Feltner has a few good innings in him before turning the game over to the Colorado bullpen.
Jordan Romano might find himself back out there for another save chance. If fans see him on the mound, then they can probably guess that Colorado is in the lead.
