Jacob Misiorowski was on his 'A' game as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated Colorado Rockies.
Going into Saturday night's matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Colorado Rockies knew they'd have a tough test.
To be honest, any team facing fireballing Jacob Misiorowski needs to make sure they are ready to catch up to his 100-mph fastballs. That just didn't happen as the Brewers defeated the Rockies 7-1 at Coors Field.
Colorado had just five hits in the game, four of those coming off of Misiorowski, so that was a moral victory.
Zach Agnos, who was recently called up from Triple-A Albuquerque, lost his first decision this season. In three innings, Agnos gave up three hits, two earned runs, walked three, struck out one, and gave up two home runs. It was Agnos' second career start and he now has 17 appearances this season.
Relievers Brendan Bernardino and TJ Shook gave up a combined six hits, five earned runs, and one walk. They struck out four Brewers but surrendered three home runs.
The Brewers were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base. Colorado was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base.
Christian Yelich and Jake McCarthy homered off of Agnos in the first two innings, giving the Brewers a 2-0 lead. In the Rockies' fifth inning, Kyle Karros hit the first of his two doubles and brought Edouard Julien home. At this point, Colorado cut into Milwaukee's lead at 2-1.
Then the Brewers started owning the game. Milwaukee's William Contreras smashed a three-run home run in hitter-friendly Coors Field on a 1-1 pitch. The Brewers went up 5-1.
In the eighth inning, Brice Turang homered and so did Jake Bauers. That made it 7-1 Brewers and that was the ballgame.
The Rockies allowed a season-high tying five home runs. With the loss, Colorado dropped to 17 games below .500 for the second time this season. The Rockies are 12-18 at Coors Field. Also, Colorado has lost three straight after winning four of five games.
Karros is hitting at a .362 clip with four doubles, two home runs, and six RBIs in his past 12 games. In that timespan, Karros is 12-for-34 at the plate.]
Turang recorded his third career multi-home run game, his second this season. He has hit safely in all six games this month, going 10-for-22 (.455) with two doubles, one triple, two home runs, and six RBIs.
These two teams will finish up this three-game series with a Sunday afternoon matchup at Coors Field. Rockies manager Warren Schaffer probably wants to see a better effort on the field Sunday.
To add one more note here, the Rockies are a young team with Schaeffer at the helm. They have shown some signs of improvement, but that's not reflected in their season record.
It's a long climb to reach the .500 mark. There's still plenty of season left for Colorado to get there. Are they a postseason playoff team? Right now, that looks like a far-reaching goal.
