Outfielder Mickey Moniak is not going anywhere from the Colorado Rockies. In fact, Moniak signed a contract extension on Tuesday.
All that chatter about trading Mickey Moniak was just that...chatter.
On Tuesday, the Colorado Rockies' outfielder signed a contract extension with the ballclub. That means Moniak is not going anywhere, so Rockies fans can relax as far as he's concerned.
I'd say the same thing goes for catcher Hunter Goodman since he hasn't been traded and wasn't in the final hours of the MLB Trade Deadline.
According to the Rockies Club Information's account on X, their post included these words: "The Rockies announced today that they have agreed to a two-year contract extension with OF Mickey Moniak covering the 2027-28 seasons. The extension covers his final year of arbitration (2027) and first year of free agency (2028)."
Let's take a look at some statistics regarding Moniak. This season, he has a slash line of .277/.318/.565 with 13 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, and 49 RBIs over 75 games.
While he's been in Colorado, Moniak has put together a slash line of .272/.310/.536 with 33 doubles, 12 triples, 42 home runs, and 117 RBIs over 210 games.
Going back all the way to June 1, 2025, Moniak ranks second in the Majors with a .577 slugging percentage (min. 575 PA) and fifth with a .901 OPS. Back in his first season wit5h Colorado in 2025, he set career highs in games (135), runs (62), hits (117), triples (eight), home runs (24), RBI (68), stolen bases (nine), slugging percentage (.519) and OPS (.824).
He has played in 485 career Major League games with Philadelphia (2020-22), Los Angeles-AL (2022-24) and Colorado (2025-26). Moniak has slashed .249/.289/.462 with 74 doubles, 17 triples, 74 home runs, 222 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases.
Moniak, who is from Encinitas, Calif., was originally drafted by Philadelphia with the first overall pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.
With Moniak in the fold and Goodman apparently not going anywhere, Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes can work on improving the roster around these two players.
Coors Field will be rocking maybe a little bit more as the fans see both Moniak and Goodman stay active in the lineup. Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer also can take a breath as he will not have to worry about replacing their spots when he fills out a lineup card.
Moniak is going to keep on putting his best foot forward for the Rockies. And, that is a great thing to have happen.
