Once again, the Colorado Rockies showed a sense of resiliency and guts against the Boston Red Sox.

The Rockies, down 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, tied things up with three runs of their own. Colorado then put together some offense for two more runs, making them hold up for an 8-6 win at Coors Field on Wednesday afternoon.

This victory also marked another series victory for the Rockies, who are making a push to get into fourth place in the National League West Division. As for the Red Sox, their season, which has been filled with futility and failure, continues to roll along.

Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland and Red Sox starter Ranger Suarez both dueled against one another in six innings. Freeland allowed 11 hits, six earned runs, walked one, struck out four, and gave up two home runs.

Suarez also went six innings, giving up seven hits, three runs (two earned), walked one, and struck out nine. 

As you can tell, this game fell into both teams' bullpens to finish it out. Colorado reliever Antonio Senzatela worked two innings to pick up the win as he goes to 8-0 overall. Jimmy Herget worked a clean ninth inning for his second save.

Boston reliever Jimmy Coulombe suffered a blown save. He was followed by Justin Slaten, who took the loss and falls now to 0-4. Slaten worked the eighth inning, giving up four hits, two earned runs, didn't walk a batter, and struck out one.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Kyle Karros reached base on a throwing error but was out after Willi Castro grounded out. Tyler Freeman followed with a single, moving Castro to second base. TJ Rumfield, who will be making his presence felt throughout this game, doubled and helped the Rockies cut into the lead at 3-1.

Cole Carrigg came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Colorado got within 3-2.

Boston added two runs in the fifth inning to go up 5-2, yet the Rockies answered with a run to tighten things up at 5-3. The Red Sox then posted their final run in the sixth inning, going up 6-3.

Now, the Rockies had Boston right where they wanted them to be.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Red Sox reliever Tyson Guerrero it Tyler Freeman with a pitch. Hunter Goodman reached base on a fielder's choice and Freeman moved up to second on a throwing error.

Carrigg's RBI single pushed Colorado closer at 6-4. Jake McCarthy then came to the plate after seeing what Carrigg did and decided to follow his teammate's footsteps. His RBI single moved the Rockies within one run at 6-5.

How about one more RBI single? Troy Johnston was the man with the right plan, connecting and tying the game at 6-6.

All of this set up a two-run eighth inning that pushed Colorado into the win column.

Freeman put down a safety squeeze bunt, driving home Mickey Moniak and the Rockies went up 7-6. Carrigg had another RBI hit as Colorado added another run to go up 8-6 and, well, that was the ballgame.

With the victory, the Rockies go to 32-49 this season and get a day off on Thursday. Colorado will travel to the Land of 10,000 Lakes and go up against the Minnesota Twins for a weekend series.
