Ironically, the Colorado Rockies did have some good months in 2026, yet the down ones held the team back from avoiding 100 losses.

Any ballclub that has struggled to find its sea legs, if you will, is looking for some type of balance, whether it's in the lineup or just an overall mindset. The Colorado Rockies entered the 2026 MLB season looking to avoid another 100-loss season.

Early on, it looked like they might be in position to do just that. Instead, the final result became a fourth straight season with 100-plus defeats. It is frustrating not only for Rockies players but fans too that the franchise has not been able to escape this situation.

Based on data from the Rockies themselves, Colorado went 1-4 in March and 13-14 in April. That's pretty good, yet an 8-20 May followed that good start. June finished up 11-15 and July was 10-14.

Rockies didn't look good late in season

Looking at August and September, though, really hurt the Rockies. The ballclub was 9-19 in August and 6-18 in September, just taking it out of the possibility of avoiding 100 losses. In the last four seasons, Colorado has recorded 427 losses. That happens to be tied for the third-most losses in a four-season span with the 1963-66 New York Mets.

Adding more insult to injury, the Rockies ended up in fifth place in the National League West Division for a fifth straight season. Ever since Colorado made the MLB postseason in 2017 and 2018, the team has finished either in fourth or fifth place in every one of the past eight seasons.

Only once this season were the Rockies, a young ballclub at this time, at .500. That happened way back on April 6-8 after finishing out a three-game sweep against the Astros.

Players like Hunter Goodman went out day after day and busted their backsides to get the team back on the winning side.

This type of record and type of monthly totals really do not look good. And, to be honest, Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes do understand the situation.

Fans need to watch franchise's moves

Fans have to pay attention to what moves the franchise will make. Once again, the Rockies are going through another rebuilding process. Last season, the Rockies finished with 15 wins more than in that disastrous 2025 season.

One thing, among many, that DePodesta has done is restructure the front office. In fact, that is an ongoing situation as the team wants to bump up its analytics department. That's a smart move to make even while many people push back against using them.

There is a fine line between a manager using his eye-ball test while allowing analytics into any thought process. Additionally, players might be more willing to tap into their own analytics and improve their play.

But the bottom line is that Colorado must have a massive improvement in its record next season. There just cannot be another 100-plus-loss season coming down the road. That would be a disaster.
