As the MLB calendar is now in June, the Colorado Rockies continue their season tied with the Detroit Tigers for the worst record in all of baseball.
Entering Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., the Rockies and Tigers are both 22-38. Seeing the Tigers with that record is a bit shocking. As for the Rockies, the organization has changed things in the front office and was looking for a better record.
It just hasn't happened for the Rockies at this time.
Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has been doing his best to right the ship in the dugout. But his players are playing hard without those efforts showing up in the team's record.
Goodman, McCarthy Slugging for Rockies
Take a look at what catcher Hunter Goodman is doing right now. Goodman has a slash line of .239/.473/.777 entering Monday night's game. Jake McCarthy hit a two-run home run and drove in four runs in Saturday night's win over the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field.
McCarthy came over to the Rockies in an earlier trade in 2026 from the Arizona Diamondbacks. He's proven to be a solid player at this point.
But the Rockies need better output from their starting pitchers. They also need a consistent showing from its lineup, all the way from the top to the bottom.
In order for Colorado to make a big move on their record in June, all of the elements of a winning MLB club have to come together.
Right now, having one of the worst records in all of the MLB doesn't sit well with a lot of people. Fans are still showing up for home games, but even they'd probably love to see their team look better in the standings.
The Rockies had a chance to move past the Giants in this past weekend's series at Coors Field. But the Giants battered the Rockies on Sunday, leaving town with a 19-6 beatdown of Colorado. This leaves the team in last place in the National League West Division.
Rockies Can Gain Ground in Win Column
The Angels are 23-37 and lingering at the bottom of the American League West Standings. They've had their own struggles against opponents this season, too. As the Angels host this series against the Rockies at home, they probably see this series as a chance to pick up some wins.
Colorado wants to do its best to keep Los Angeles sinking in its own series.
Who can put some hurt in the batter's box for the Angels? None other than center fielder Mike Trout. Trout is showing up in a much healthier way so far this season. He's found his home-run stroke once again, too. While the Angels have struggled, there's no doubt that Rockies pitchers will look to be careful when pitching against Trout.
Things don't get easier, though, for the Rockies after this series. They will get a day off on Thursday, but go right into a weekend series at Coors Field against the Milwaukee Brewers. It'll be a great series for fans to come out and root for the home team. But they also will see some of the best pitching in baseball, too, from the Brewers.
It's high time for the Rockies to get even more serious about the next months of the 2026 MLB season.
