Heading into Sunday afternoon's series finale, the Colorado Rockies have a chance to pick up another series win in June by clashing with Minnesota Twins.
Heading into Sunday's series finale, the Colorado Rockies have a couple of goals in mind when they go against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn.
First, the Rockies are positioned to get another series win. Second, Colorado can reach the .500 mark for their play in June. The Rockies have two more games this month on Monday and Tuesday, but they'll be back home at Coors Field for those games.
Ryan Feltner gets the start for Colorado manager Warren Schaeffer, while Minnesota will send Connor Prielipp to the mound.
Rockies Looking Good Ahead of All-Star Break
It also needs to be noted that the Rockies have just two more series before reaching the All-Star break. Starting Monday through Wednesday. the Miami Marlins will come to the Mile High City, followed by the San Francisco Giants.
Put a circle on your Rockies calendar around that Giants series. Colorado is in prime position to move ahead of San Francisco and get into fourth place in the National League West Division.
While that lies ahead, we cannot ignore what catcher Hunter Goodman has been doing at the plate recently. In case you missed it, Goodman smashed three home runs in the Rockies' win against the Twins on Saturday night. He was the first Rockies player to do so since Michael Toglia turned the deal on July 14, 2024.
Goodman had his ninth multi-homer game in his career on Saturday. That ties him with Ryan McMahon for the 12th most of multi-homer games by a Colorado player in the franchise's history. As an aside, Goodman also homered in back-to-back games (he also homered in Friday night's loss).
Looking at some team offense data, the Rockies have been mashing at the plate. Consider this: Colorado hasn't been shut out in its last 34 games, all since May 20. They only have three shutout losses this season, leaving them tied for third fewest in the National League this season.
Run-Scoring Data Quite Impressive
Through June, the Rockies have scored 134 runs. That number is tied for the second-most runs in the entire Major League Baseball universe. But they are No. 1 across the big leagues with a .855 team OPS.
And, Colorado's 38 home runs in June are tied for the third-most in MLB. Those 38 homers also are the most for a Rockies team in a single month since Colorado did it back in July 2024.
Let's also put a bow on this data drop with some very interesting numbers that the Rockies have posted in the eighth inning or less this season. Colorado has scored 113 runs in the eighth inning or later, which are the most in MLB.
Additionally, the Rockies are hitting .298/.360/.485 with 33 doubles, three triples, and 26 home runs in the eighth inning or later. Figuring in MLB data, Colorado has the most numbers in MLB from the eighth inning onward in hits, batting average, slugging, and total base hits. The team is tied for first with 303 total bases and 62 extra-base hits.
What the Rockies have not been strong in is being able to get a series-winning victory in the third game of a three-game series.
Colorado will go out on Sunday looking to change that pattern.
