While Colorado Rockies are coming off a loss, they hope to get back on winning path against Athletics.
Going to Las Vegas might be a trap three-game series for the Colorado Rockies as they open a three-game series on Friday night against the Athletics.
The Rockies and Athletics will play at Las Vegas Ballpark, but the Athletics will be making Las Vegas their home in the future. At this time, the franchise is waiting for its new stadium to finish being built on the Las Vegas Strip.
Do not place your bets on this series just yet.
Colorado is coming off a 9-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon at Coors Field. While the loss stings, there were some highlights to point out.
Carrigg, Sullivan Stand Out for Rockies
Rookie center fielder Cole Carrigg hit his first MLB home run, going 2-for-4 with that home run, scored a run, and had an RBI. Catcher Brett Sullivan went 3-for-4 with two homers and two RBIs. Carrigg and Sullivan were the only Rockies players who put the team on the scoreboard.
Additionally, right fielder Troy Johnston went 3-for-4, his fourth three-hit game this season. Johnston is the eighth Rockies player in the franchise's history to record at least 65 hits and 20 doubles in their first 64 games within the Rockies.
As far as I know, these players are the ones who can be catalysts for the team this season. Can they stay at this level of performance for the rest of this season? If they an do so, then Colorado can move a bit closer to a .500 record.
That was on Thursday, though. Now, the Rockies are going to play the Athletics and, oh boy, do they have some hitters.
Athletics Have Some Big Boppers
Catcher Shea Langeliers has 17 home runs this season and currently has a slash line of .283/.535/.880. First baseman Nick Kurtz, who has launched some balls out of Las Vegas Ballpark as the Athletics are playing some games in Las Vegas, has hit 15 home runs this season. His slash line? It's nothing to sneeze at one bit.
Kurtz currently has a slash line of .283/.529/.967.
As far as the Athletics' pitching staff goes, they have not collectively been good this season. They have a propensity to give up home runs and some RBIs, too.
If the Rockies can attack the Athletics' starting pitchers, then they should be in a good position to either win two out of three games. A sweep is not out of the question, either.
But Colorado has to go into this series focused on this series alone. They do not have the time to mess around. Making a statement with a win on Friday night can set them up with a solid mindset. A winning mindset, which Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer is trying to impress on his young team.
It's time to go to "Vegas baby, Vegas!" for the Rockies.
