Colorado Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has put left fielder Jake McCarthy, second baseman Willi Castro, and catcher Hunter Goodman at the top of his lineup card for Friday night's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field.

First baseman TJ Rumfield, right fielder Tyler Freeman, center fielder Cole Carrigg, designated hitter Sterlin Thompson, shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, and third baseman Kyle Karros round out the Rockies' lineup. This lineup is subject to change, of course, but this was the lineup posted for Colorado on Baseball Savant.

Later on Friday, the Rockies' account on X confirmed the lineup for Friday night.

Kyle Freeland gets the start for Colorado, too. Freeland is a five-pitch pitcher, leaning on his four-seam fastball, curve, cutter, and changeup. 

Earlier Friday afternoon, the Pirates had not released their starting lineup yet. Bubba Chandler will get the start, though, for Pittsburgh.

Looking closer at the Rockies' lineup, Goodman has a 91.0 exit velocity, 46.4 hard-hit percentage, and a .459 slugging percentage. The Colorado catcher has been a spark in the Rockies' hitting efforts. Goodman leads the team with 21 home runs, while Mickey Moniak has 12 dingers and Freeman has 10 right now. 

Carrigg, who doesn't have enough at-bats to qualify among the league leaders, just continues to impress in all facets of his game. It's hard to believe that he's just a number of games into his major-league career, but that's true.

Carrigg has three home runs and one stolen base, along with a slash line of .212/.545/.861. But Carrigg also has shown a strong ability to play stellar defense in center field, making a brilliant catch against Chicago at Wrigley Field.

According to Carrigg's spray chart, two of his three home runs went over the right-center field fence. Three of his seven hits have been of the infield variety.

Freeman has a slash line right now of .266/.345/.712 with three home runs and five stolen bases. He has 42 hits in 158 at-bats and has scored 21 runs for the Rockies.

One player to watch in the Pirates' lineup will be left fielder Bryan Reynolds. Reynolds has a .458 slugging percentage and a .373 on-base average. He's one of the strongest players that Freeland will need to be careful when pitching to him on Friday night.

Entering the opener against the Pirates, the Rockies are 28-47 and in fifth place in the National League West Division. Colorado lost the final game of its three-game series with the Cubs, and also has a minus-40 run differential.

While Friday night offers a good chance for the Rockies to flex their hitting muscles, that might be tough to do on Saturday night. Paul Skenes takes the mound for Pittsburgh and, well, he's been turning heads since making his MLB debut. Skenes' record is just 6-6 this season, yet he's still a pitcher to be feared.

Can the Rockies get two wins out of the three games this weekend? That is what Schaeffer hopes to see from his team. 

Yet it will not be a cakewalk against the Buckos.
