Rockies Make Moves to Shape 40-Man Roster
Nov 3, 2026 1:04 AM

A number of players were reinstated while others cleared waivers as the Colorado Rockies work to make 40-man roster formed before next season.

Monday turned out to be a very busy day in the MLB world, and the Colorado Rockies were quite active themselves. The ballclub named Ethan Katz as their new pitching coach, while roster moves were made later on Monday.

These moves were done so that the Rockies could get down to a 40-man roster size before the end of the day. As you will see, the ballclub did that while being a bit below that 40-man point right now.

According to the Rockies Club Information account on X, these players were reinstated from the ballclub's 60-day Injured List: Right-handed pitchers McCade Brown, Chase Dollander and RJ Petit, infielder/outfielder Kris Bryant, and left-handed pitcher Welinton Herrera.

Rockies announce players who cleared waivers

Also, these players cleared waivers for the Rockies: right-handed pitchers Blake Adams, Eiberson Castellano, and TJ Shook, and infielder Chad Stevens. Out of this group, Shook, Stevens, and Castellano are now free agents. Adams was outrighted to the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League.

These moves now leave the Rockies with 37 players on their 40-man roster.

Bryant was touted as an up-and-coming star with the Chicago Cubs, but that did not materialize. Back in 2022, according to Spotrac, Bryant signed a seven-year, $182 million dollar contract with the Rockies.

This included a $7 million dollar signing bonus, $182 million dollars guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $26 million dollars. In 2027, Bryant will earn a base salary of $26 million while carrying a total salary of $27 million.

Bryant has work to do

The Rockies thought that Bryant was going to be their everyday first baseman for a long, long time. That, though, also has not happened. TJ Rumfield was the everyday first baseman last season for Colorado. It remains to be seen if Bryant can get back in gear and snag that first baseman job on a full-time basis.

Brown was a third-round draft pick out of Indiana by the Rockies in the 2021 MLB Draft. He has a career MLB record of 0-5 with a 7.36 ERA. He's started seven career games and has 23 career strikeouts.

Dollander pitched last season at the big-league level for Colorado. Before going on IL, Dollander had a 3-3 record with a 3.89 ERA. He appeared in 10 games and started three of them. Dollander totaled 47 strikeouts, too.

These moves are just the start of what should be an active off-season for the Rockies as it pertains to getting a winning team put
