Monday night's loss to Los Angeles Dodgers wasn't the best showing for Colorado Rockies in front of the home fans. Also, Hunter Goodman goes on the Injured List.
On Monday night, the Colorado Rockies returned to Coors Field after a very successful series against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. The Rockies had the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers coming into town.
It was an opportunity for the Rockies to show that they can hold their own with baseball's reigning top team. In the end, though, position player Troy Johnston was on the mound for Colorado.
Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs and Los Angeles pretty much coasted its way to an 11-5 win. Dodgers ace reliever Edwin Diaz, despite closing out the game, ended up allowing three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
When the series' second game starts on Tuesday night, Ryan Feltner gets the call as Colorado's starter for manager Warren Schaeffer. The Dodgers are countering with Eric Lauer. Feltner this season is 5-6 with a 5.59 ERA. Lauer has put together a 7-6 mark and a 4.67 ERA for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
Can Feltner deliver for Rockies?
In Feltner's last three appearances for Colorado, he has a 4.96 ERA, allowed 20 hits, struck out seven, and walked seven. What about Lauer? In the same timespan, he has a 3.86 ERA, given up 16 hits, struck out 11, and walked three.
Right now, the Rockies are looking to collect even more victories before the 2026 MLB season ends. Colorado has been better this season than in 2025, which is a lot to say as Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes are working hard to put this franchise back on a winning track.
This is Schaeffer's first full season as Colorado manager. He took over in the 2025 season after the club fired former manager Bud Black.
Now, let's see if the Rockies come out stronger against the Dodgers on Tuesday night. These teams will wrap up the three-game series in another matchup on Wednesday night at Coors Field.
Goodman goes on IL
After missing a few games, the Rockies placed catcher Hunter Goodman on the 10-day Injured List with a left shoulder strain.
This is retroactive to Aug. 15.
In a corresponding move, the ballclub called up catcher Braxton Fulford from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League.
Goodman has been the heavy hitter in the middle of the Rockies' lineup this season and earned another All-Star Game nomination for the National League team.
Hopefully, Goodman can come back in solid shape for the final weeks of this season.
