Ahead of Tuesday night's series opener against the Chicago Cubs at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies made a number of moves. The one that might get a lot of attention from Rockies fans is that infielder/outfielder Cole Carrigg had his contract selected from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Carrigg was called up because infielder/outfielder Tyler Freeman is headed to the seven-day concussion Injured List. Freeman, of course, took a pitch right to his head from Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.

Other moves included the Rockies recalling right-handed pitcher Jeff Criswell from Albuquerque. And, finally, pitcher Keegan Thompson has been designated for assignment.

Carrigg has put together a slash line of .338/.414/.529 with 15 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 42 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases in 57 games with the Isotopes. He ranks among Pacific Coast League leaders in stolen bases (first), runs scored (55, second), triples (tied for second), and hits (76, tied for third).

Carrigg also has appeared in 37 games in center field and 18 games at shortstop in 2026. He's played in parts of four Minor League seasons. During that time, the switch hitter has slashed .283/.359/.474 with 59 doubles, 30 triples, 43 home runs, 200 RBIs, and 142 stolen bases.

Additionally, he's ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Rockies’ No. 6 prospect. Carrigg, a native of Modesto, Calif., was originally selected by Colorado in the CB-B round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft.

Thompson pitched 3.2 innings on Sunday as the Rockies lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 12-4. Thompson allowed six hits, four earned runs, didn't walk a batter, and struck out three. After his outing, Thompson had an 8.25 ERA.

Turning back attention to Tuesday night's series opener against the Cubs, the Rockies will send Tomoyuki Sugano to the mound against Chicago's Colin Rea.

Rea comes in with a 5-3 record and a 4.59 ERA. In his last three starts, Rea has a 3.57 ERA with 12 hits allowed, 12 strikeouts, and eight walks. By comparison, Sugano has a 3.86 ERA. Sugano has allowed 17 hits, struck out 11, and walked four.

With these two pitchers out there, Tuesday night's game might turn into a Coors Field special. That means home runs, runs scored, and other shenanigans.

Hunter Goodman finds the Cubs a worthy opponent. Yes, they are worthy enough to get their pitchers hit all over the park.

In 12 career games against the Cubs, Goodman is hitting .289 with two home runs and nine RBIs. There's something about playing the team from Chicago's North Side that brings out another level of play and hitting from Goodman.

Let's see if he can have a repeat performance in this three-game series.

Of course, the Cubs come in with a 34-32 season record while the Rockies are struggling at 24-42. Colorado has to find a way to get better as the season rolls along. Don't be surprised, though, if Colorado is a seller at the MLB Trade Deadline this season.
