All eyes are still on Colorado Rockies prospect Charlie Condon and how he's playing right now for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.
Colorado Rockies fans and followers have been paying close attention to the season that outfielder Charlie Condon is having for the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
OK, so what are his statistics as of Monday, July 20? Condon has a slash line of .286/.407/.976 with 20 home runs and 61 RBIs. The growth this season of the Rockies' No. 1 draft pick in the 2024 MLB Draft is pretty amazing.
Condon, who played college baseball at the University of Georgia, just might be playing himself into a call-up by the MLB club before September. He's rocketed his way to Albuquerque after proving himself from A ball to Triple-A.
If he keeps this up throughout July, then the question becomes just when will the Rockies add him to their 40-man roster? Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta might decide to let him keep on playing for the Isotopes.
All of us will have to wait and see. Oh, I don't expect Condon to be involved in any kind of trade talks that the Rockies have before the MLB Trade Deadline on Aug. 3.
Minor league updates
Looking across the Rockies' minor-league teams, there are some notes from late June about all of them. Let's take a look at some players making a difference right now.
Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A)
Besides Condon, infielder-outfielder Ryan Ritter had been on a hot streak. His 31-game hitting streak ended on June 19. His slash line during the streak was a gaudy .411/.469/.806. Ritter had 12 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs and 41 RBIs in the stretch. That streak tied Ritter for the longest hit streak in the Isotopes' history in Triple-A ball.
Hartford Yard Goats (Double-A)
Infielder Andy Perez had a pretty nice ending to the first half of the team's season. He collected 79 hits and ended up second in the Eastern League batting averages with a .304 mark. In the first half, Perez started three games at third base and 60 games at shortstop.
Spokane Indians (High-A)
Catcher-first baseman Jack O'Dowd, who is the son of former Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd, earned Northwest League Player of the Week honors for June 15-21. In that timespan, O'Dowd hit .409 with four home runs, one double, and 12 RBIs in six games.
Fresno Grizzlies (Single-A)
Infielder-outfielder Roldy Brito, who is the Rockies' No. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, ended the first half of the Grizzlies' season with a slash line of .313/.356/.473. Brito ranks among the league leaders in hits, total bases, and triples. He's played 35 games in center field and 28 at second base.
Rockies open home series against Nationals
After opening the second half of the MLB season with a series loss, the Rockies are looking to get back on the winning track.
The Washington Nationals come into Denver on Monday, opening up a three-game series at Coors Field. Monday and Tuesday games are scheduled for night games, while Wednesday's series ender is set for Wednesday afternoon.
