Rockies Notebook: O'Dowd Picks Up Play in Arizona Fall League
Oct 28, 2026 10:35 PM

Jack O'Dowd has turned up his game while playing in the Arizona Fall League right now. Will this help him move forward into next season for the Colorado Rockies organization?

Catcher/first baseman Jack O'Dowd played his college baseball at the University of Texas, learning some valuable lessons to take into his pro baseball career. The Colorado Rockies have O'Dowd in their minor-league system at this time, which is a good thing.

Any time the Rockies can have a player of O'Dowd's caliber potentially in their future, it's a solid statement of trust in him.

O'Dowd, who finished playing his minor-league season with the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats, is playing right now for the Salt Lake Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. And, to be honest, O'Dowd is performing at a high level.

This week, O'Dowd was named the Arizona Fall League's Hitter of the Week as of Oct. 26. According to MLB.com, he hit three home runs, had 17 total bases, posted a 1.308 slugging percentage, and a 1.770 OPS. O'Dowd, who is from Denver, had five extra-base hits and six RBIs for the week, too.

O'Dowd rocketed through the Rockies' minor-league system this season. He started playing for the Fresno Grizzlies, then went to the Spokane Indians before finishing up at Hartford.

In looking over 10 games of work, he's hitting .350 and has the top spot in the AFL with five home runs, nine extra-base hits, 33 total bases, an .825 slugging percentage, and a 1.206 OPS.

It is also notable during this season that O'Dowd earned Player of the Week honors twice, once with Fresno in the California League and again in Spokane in the Northwest League.

Holliday deserves attention for Rockies

Who among the Rockies' prospects deserves a closer look? Let's start at the top with shortstop Ethan Holliday, who played this season with Fresno.

In 33 games for the Grizzlies, Holliday had a slash line of .262/.395/.557 with an OPS of .952. He hit five doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 32 RBIs. He coaxed 23 walks and struck out 43 times at Fresno.

Right now, Holliday, who is the son former Rockies player Matt Holliday and is the brother of Baltimore Orioles standout Jackson Holliday, was the No. 4 overall pick by Colorado in the 2025 MLB Draft. Right now, his estimated time of arrival in the majors sits at 2029.

So, he's still got some time to prepare for a big-league career. The results, so far, are good. Holliday is growing at a fast rate. It is obvious from his move through the Rockies' minor-league system this season.

Keep your eyes on Holliday, friends.
