After a Saturday night where the game ended on a full-blown chaos moment, the Colorado Rockies can finish off the weekend series with a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Rockies already have a series win and are eyeballing sending the Pirates out with their third straight loss.
Let's break down what Colorado has been doing series-wise recently. The Rockies clinched their seventh series win this season on Saturday night. Additionally, it marked the second time this season where the Rockies won by a 2-1 score. But it's the first time they have done it at Coors Field since April 2025.
Since May 29, Colorado has won four of its last seven series. The team has gone 10-10 in that timeframe.
While the Rockies aim for a sweep, they've had trouble doing so over their last three chances to do so. In a third-game effort, Colorado has lost them by a combined 39-13 score. The Rockies are in position to win their 11th first-half series. It would be the most since winning 10 series in the first half of a season in 2023.
Compare that number to the Rockies winning just two pre-All-Star break series last season.
Leadoff Home Run Madness
In case you missed it on Saturday night, both the Pirates and Rockies had leadoff home runs in the first inning. But Colorado's Jake McCarthy smashed a Paul Skenes pitch to center field, only to have it bounce all the way to the center-field wall.
Once McCarthy got around second base, he threw off his helmet and ran like a man hurrying to deposit a paycheck before the bank closes on Friday afternoons. He was chugging, huffing, and puffing for sure, but he slid home safely.
Yes, that's what is called an inside-the-park home run.
It was the 20th inside-the-park homer in Rockies franchise history. When was the last one? Well, you have to go all the way back to 2019 when Ian Desmond pulled it off against San Diego. McCarthy's mad dash also was the second leadoff inside-the-park homer in franchise history, too.
That first one came in 2012 when Eric Young Jr. did it against the Dodgers. McCarthy now has a nine-game hitting streak, which is now tied for the longest in his career.

The Boston Red Sox come to the Mile High City on Monday night to Coors Field. Here are the pitching probables for the three-game series.
On Monday, with a 6:40 p.m. MT start time, Colorado's Ryan Feltner (2-2, 5.05 ERA) faces Red Sox left-hander Jake Bennett (1-3, 4.79 ERA).
On Tuesday, with a 6:40 p.m. MT start time, the Rockies' left-handed pitcher Sean Sullivan (0-1, 10.29 ERA) goes against Boston right-hander Sonny Gray (8-1, 3.12 ERA).
In the series finale on Wednesday, with a 1:10 p.m. start time, Colorado left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland (1-7, 7.36) squares up against Red Sox left-hander Ranger Suarez (3-3, 2.93 ERA).
