The New York Yankees are up next for the Colorado Rockies as they continue to try and avoid a 100-loss season.
Going into historic Yankee Stadium already is tough enough for some young baseball players. It might cause some Colorado Rockies players to develop a few jitters when a three-game series against the New York Yankees gets started on Tuesday night.
The big news for the Yankees on Tuesday is that Aaron Judge, who has missed a ton of time due to injury this season, is scheduled to be back in the Bronx Bombers' starting lineup.
Just in time for Judge and his teammates to potentially add a couple of more losses to the Rockies' overall record. Entering the series, Colorado is 12 games away from that 100-loss plateau. Of course, the Rockies want to avoid that mark as much as possible.
New York is currently 81-62, four games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and in second place in the American League East Division. Colorado, which officially was eliminated from postseason play, is 55-88.
Rockies vs. Yankees: Probable Starters
In looking at who the Rockies and Yankees will have going to the mound, it looks like Colorado will have its hands full.
Tuesday, Sept. 8: Gabriel Hughes (0-6, 6.19 ERA) vs. Cam Schlittler (12-6, 2.04)
This is not going to be an easy start for Gabriel Hughes, who really needs a win under his hat before the season ends. Cam Schlittler has been one of the best starters this season for Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Hughes must get ahead of Yankees hitters and keep them guessing a bit on what pitch he's throwing next. If he cannot do this, then New York might have a field night at the plate.
Wednesday, Sept. 9: Tomoyuki Sugano (12-8, 5.19) vs. Max Fried (4-4, 2.73 ERA)
Tomoyuki Sugano has been the lead guy in the Rockies' starting rotation. His 12-8 record stands head and shoulders above other starters. Sugano must come out and have his "A" game in place.
Max Fried is no pushover. His 4-4 record might not get attention, but that ERA should get some eyebrows raised. Why? Fried has shown an ability, at times, to keep run production low against an opponent. The Rockies need to find a way to attack him early and have the bullpen come in for some innings.
Thursday, Sept. 10: Ryan Feltner (5-9. 5.91) vs. Carlos Rodón (5-3, 3.09)
In the series finale, Carlos Rodón should be favored to dominate against Ryan Feltner.
It has not been a good season for Feltner and that ERA near six should give Yankees hitters room to get their bats ready. Rodón will need to come out for New York and see if he can keep Colorado hitters offstride,
