TJ Rumfield and Ariel Amador played longball for the Colorado Rockies as they defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

Talk about getting September off on the right foot. The Colorado Rockies did just that on Tuesday night in front of the hometown fans at Coors Field.

TJ Rumfield and Adael Amador, just called back up from Triple-A Albuquerque, homered as the Rockies defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-2. The victory helps Colorado, at least for one night, avoid taking the highway to 100 losses this season.

Amador, center fielder-left fielder Jake McCarthy, and catcher Brett Sullivan all had two hits apiece to lead the Rockies' 10-hit attack.

Gabriel Hughes got the start and went 4.2 innings, giving up four hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out four. Reliever Brennan Bernardino started the bullpen train by working a clean one-third of an inning.

Hill blows save, gets victory for Rockies

Zach Agnos picked up a hold, and Jaden Hill pulled off a two-for against Baltimore. He picked up a blown save, but also was named the winning pitcher, too. Reliever Juan Mejia also picked up a hold, and Rockies closer Jordan Romano earned his 14th save.

Luis De Léon, the third pitcher used by Baltimore on Tuesday night, took the loss.

Colorado had lots of chances to add runs on the scoreboard, but it was just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The Rockies left nine total runners on base. Meanwhile, Baltimore was 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left eight total runners on base.

Amador's solo home run in the second inning was his second MLB home run this season. As for Rumfield, his two-run blast in the seventh inning was his 14th longball for the Rockies.

Amador's home run put the Rockies up 1-0 in the bottom of the second. Zac Veen hit a triple, but Colorado called for an umpires' review as the dugout believed it was a home run. The call on the field was originally a triple and it was upheld. That led to McCarthy singling to the Orioles' Monday night hero, center fielder Colton Cowser, and Veen scored.

Orioles battled back

It was Colorado 2, Baltimore 0 at that point, but the Orioles weren't going to sit down and not put up a fight of some kind. Carlos Narváez and Pete Alonso singled around the fifth inning's first out. Narváez scored on Gunnar Henderson's double-play groundout. Baltimore drew closer at 2-1.

Jackson Holliday made his presence felt in the top of the seventh inning with his seventh home run this season. That solo blast tied the game at 2-2, yet Colorado had a little more offense in its back pocket.

Well, Mickey Moniak led off the home half of the seventh by reaching base and getting to second on a fielding error by Holliday. After Hunter Goodman struck out, Rumfield sized up a pitch and sent that ball over the right-center field wall. Moniak scored ahead of Rumfield and the Rockies were back up again at 4-2.

Baltimore's offense could not get back into the game, and Romano closed the door on anymore Orioles shenanigans on Tuesday night.

These two teams will go at it again on Wednesday at 3:10 p.m. Eastern.
