As the Savannah Bananas bring their Banana Ball style of play to stadiums across the United States and Mexico, Coors Field, home to the Colorado Rockies, is on the schedule in 2027.
The Savannah Bananas actually started out as a legitimate minor-league baseball team, but things changed along the way. After becoming a team that mixes humor, baseball, and incredible skill and talents on the field, the Bananas have become baseball's modern-day version of the Harlem Globetrotters.
For Colorado Rockies fans, the Bananas are going to come back to the Mile High City next year.
On Friday, Colorado announced that Banana Ball, as it is called, brings all of the fun and enjoyment that the Bananas produce back to Coors Field.
On Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30, Savannah goes up against the Party Animals and the Loco Beach Coconuts. The Bananas made appearances at Coors Field in 2025 and 2026.
Bananas bring unique style to Rockies home stadium
Before dismissing this as just another baseball exhibition, if you don't know about these types of games, then you aren't too informed.
This team has grown in popularity over the past few years, now packing MLB stadiums all over the United States.
According to a Rockies press release, "Banana Ball is a fast-paced, fans-first version of baseball, featuring 11 unique rules and a two-hour time limit designed to keep the action non-stop and the crowd entertained from the first pitch to the last out.
"The Banana Ball Championship League was launched by Jesse and Emily Cole, the founders of the Savannah Bananas, to expand the competition and format of Banana Ball," according to the release. "The league features six teams: Savannah Bananas, Party Animals, Firefighters, Texas Tailgaters, Loco Beach Coconuts and Indianapolis Clowns."
As the Bananas' official site states, "Banana Ball: The Greatest Show in Sports" has a tagline: "Fans first. Entertain always."
When watching Banana Ball, it might have familiar baseball rules in place but there's a twist. Among those twists include keeping the action alive all the time and making sure fans are interacting with the play and fun on the field.
Banana Ball has different set of rules
There are specific rules put into place for the Banana Ball style of play, including a no-walks rule and a point-per-inning system. Other rules include no stepping out of the batter's box for hitters, a no bunting rule, batters can steal first base, no walks allowed, no mound visits, and a real special one.
If a fan catches a ball in the stands, then it is recorded as an out,
Should a Rockies fan go and see this game, they might feel compelled to ask MLB to adapt a couple of these rules. Sure, it's not in the "for the good of the game" category as all this is done to entertain fans in the stands.
Yet, not looking at these rules and thinking about maybe adding one to the majors might be worth reconsidering.
In 2027, the Bananas are going to play some games in Mexico, showing that the games now have an international flavor to them. Before dismissing games in Mexico, it should be noted that the Mexican Baseball League has been alive for many years. Additionally, there have been some MLB games played in that country, too.
The Bananas also have played their brand of ball in NFL stadiums, too. That first happened at Raymond James Stadium, home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, back in 2025. Additionally, five other teams in the Banana Ball world are finding spaces to start their own tours.
Banana Ball is active in supporting those in the foster care community through their Banana Foster program.
So, going to see Banana Ball isn't just going to "another baseball game." It's a fun, entertaining time to see baseball played in a very different way. One that's bound to put smiles on faces of young and old alike.
