The Colorado Rockies went out and won consecutive series for the first time this series. It's really impressed Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer a lot.
After winning two straight series on the road, did it put Colorado Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer in a good mood? Of course he was.
The Rockies spent time in on the West Coast, where they won two of three games against the Los Angeles Angels. Before that series, Colorado also picked up two victories in a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.
What's even more impressive is that the Rockies were competitive against the Giants and Angels, two franchises who are struggling this season.
Hunter Goodman Has Hopes for Rockies
Hunter Goodman, who spends a majority of his time behind home plate as the Rockies' catcher, already knows what his goals are for the rest of the 2026 MLB season for him and his teammates.
"Win more baseball games. I think we all want to do that," Goodman said, according to MLB.com. "I think we're headed in the right direction. The last two series have been really good, and hopefully we can keep this momentum going."
Sure, the Rockies have had their own struggles. Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen wasn't sharp in Wednesday night's series finale at LA Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. Yet, getting back-to-back series wins for the first time this season sure made Schaeffer smile a lot.
"Oh my gosh, we won the series. It's like the biggest positive of all time," Schaeffer said, smiling. "Yeah, you win the series, you move on to the Milwaukee Brewers.
"We won the last series [and] got crushed the last day," Schaeffer said. "We won this series [and] got beat pretty bad today (Wednesday). But we won two series in a row and we're moving forward and we take huge steps from that."
Schaeffer was referencing the Giants' 19-6 drubbing of Colorado at Coors Field on the last day of May.
Michael Lorenzen Needs to Be Better
As I said, Lorenzen just didn't have a great outing. In 3.1 innings, Lorenzen gave up eight earned runs and 10 hits. He has to be better than this as one of the keys to the Rockies' starting rotation.
Schaeffer, though, wasn't downplaying Lorenzen at all after the game. In fact, Schaffer intimated that Lorenzen was one tough dawg on the mound.
"He's strong as an ox," Schaeffer said. "He's a leader. He wants to eat the innings for the bullpen so that they don't get destroyed down there. It's a big part of a starter's job, especially when the game's not going right."
Another positive sign? The Rockies found solid footing in the batter's box, able to put together big, timely hits. Schaeffer also noted that as well.
"I thought the boys swung the bat well these three days in L.A. and just carried [us] over," Schaeffer said. "We're working one day at a time, I can't say it enough. One day at a time. It doesn't matter if we're in altitude or here. [I’m] looking forward to getting after the Brewers after the off-day."
Can the Rockies keep the good times rolling and win another series against the Brewers? Speaking of getting drubbed, the Giants were way ahead of the Brew Crew in their game on Thursday afternoon.
In the top of the ninth, the Giants lead 12-6. The Brewers' pitching staff has been affected by injuries to pitchers DL Hall and Grant Anderson in that ballgame.
While the Rockies enjoy a day off on Thursday, the Brewers might have to make some call-ups from Triple-A before this series starts at Coors Field on Friday night.
