With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Colorado Rockies post incredible 3-2 win over Chicago Cubs.
There wasn't much offense on Wednesday night between the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs at Coors Field, but the Rockies had just enough to pull off a comeback victory.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Sterlin Thompson's single scored Troy Johnston and the Rockies dropped the Cubs 3-2.
It was an amazing game for the Rockies, who took out a struggling Cubs team.
Antonio Senzatela Redeemed Himself
Rockies reliever Antonio Senzatela suffered a blown save, then picked up the win and puts his record now at 6-0. Senzatela gave up two hits, one earned run, didn't walk a batter, and struck out one. But he did give up a game-tying home run in his outing.
Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia took the loss, falling to 1-1. Chicago has been going through it this season, not at the level of the Rockies, but it's been bad on the North Side of Chicago.
The Rockies are now 26-42, still in last place in the National League West Division. With the defeat, the Cubs fall to .500 at 34-34 and are in fourth place in the National League Central Division.
Pete Crow-Armstrong opened the Cubs' fourth inning with a triple. Moises Ballesteros grounded out to first base, but Crow-Armstrong scored to go up 1-0.
TJ Rumfield Hits Home Run
Then, in the bottom of the eighth inning, with Edouard Julien on base, TJ Rumfield hit his eighth home run this season and Colorado went up 2-1.
Ian Happ's 15th home run this season tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the ninth inning. That set things up for the Rockies' 10th-inning comeback.
In the 10th, Brett Sullivan singled to right and designated runner Johnston moved to third base. Thompson strode to the plate, made sure he had on his Superman cape in the right position, and delivered the game-winning hit.
Thompson delivered the first walk-off base hit of his career with his pinch-hit single in the ninth inning. It marked the 23rd pinch-hit walk-off in franchise history, the first since Charlie Blackmon on June 16, 2021.
The Cubs and Rockies will wrap up their series with a Thursday afternoon game at Coors Field. First pitch is 1:10 p.m. CDT.
