Talk about some Monday Night Madness at Coors Field. The Colorado Rockies were down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Boston Red Sox sent out legendary reliever Aroldis Chapman to get three quick outs and secure the win.

Instead, the Rockies scored three quick runs, thanks to Jake McCarthy's game-winning, bases-clearing triple. 

There are games where the young Rockies refuse to surrender. Monday night's win proved that to be the case.

When Chapman came in firing his fastball over the plate, though, Colorado hitters were not wasting time. They jumped on Chapman's offerings with three straight singles, setting the stage for an improbable comeback.

After Cole Carrigg belly-flopped into home plate, McCarthy's biggest concern (if you want to call it that) was scampering away from his teammates rushing out to celebrate.

Let's face it, folks. The Rockies do not have a great record this season, sitting at 31-49 and still in last place in the National League West Division. Yet, Colorado is in fine position to take over fourth place in the NL West from the fading San Francisco Giants.

Just an inning before the great comeback, Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer had to watch as his players connected for four base hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Two Rockies runners, though, were thrown out on the base paths.

It could have spelled a bad night and given Schaeffer some headaches and a tummy ache. But that was not the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey might have said.

At times, Rockies fans probably have felt frustrated watching the Rockies make some unforced errors this season. What Monday night's game showed, though, is that there is no quit in these young players.

McCarthy. Carrigg. Goodman. And the list goes on and on.

Don't leave out the fact that Colorado jumped all over Chapman. He only threw eight pitches -- all strikes -- in his outing. Colorado hitters were dialed in, catching up to Chapman's pitches.

As the Red Sox-Rockies series moves into a second game on Tuesday afternoon at Coors Field, Rockies fans are going to see if their favorite team can win again.

Maybe they can do it without so much drama.

A few Boston fans, after watching Chapman melt down, commented on social media that it's time for the Red Sox to pull the plug on this team's roster right now.

It's been a tough season in Beantown as the Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora earlier this season. With the MLB trade deadline looming, it looks more and more like Boston will be sellers at that time.

But that's another team's issues. 

The Rockies have been through some hard times in recent seasons. Now, with new front office management in place, they have a golden opportunity to turn things around, Can it happen this season? It's possible that Colorado could either reach or get near to the .500 mark.

This season, the Rockies got off to a start in March and April where they finished that stretch two games under .500. A bad May, though, set the team back a bit. Colorado has played better baseball in June.

If they keep it up, then they could hurtle themselves into some consideration for a National League Wild Card spot. But this all happens due to baby steps for the franchise.
