What Will It Take for Rockies to Make World Series?
Oct 25, 2026 5:14 PM

It's been since 2007 for the Colorado Rockies to be a part of the World Series. Is there any hope for a return to the Fall Classic?

This probably feels like it was a long time ago and, yes, in a galaxy far, far away. But the Colorado Rockies were involved in one World Series in franchise history. That's all the way back to 2007, when the Boston Red Sox swept the best-of-seven series to win baseball's biggest team honor.

It's been quite a stretch since the Rockies were in the Fall Classic. And, as any Rockies fan or follower knows, the ballclub just hasn't been able to put things together for a solid season recently.

Still, with the World Series taking place right now, it might lead Rockies fans to wonder if the ballclub can ever reach that mountaintop again.

Rockies in rebuilding mode

For Colorado, there's a rebuilding phase going on right now. Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes are working feverishly to get the Rockies back to the postseason conversation.

The nucleus of a future is there as it will be centered around catcher Hunter Goodman, who is the team's biggest home run threat. When Jake McCarthy, Cole Carrigg, TJ Rumfield, and others can surround Goodman, then there's a good chance that Goodman's RBI possibilities grow.

There is an old baseball adage that pitching, speed and defense win championships. That pitching aspect is a major problem that the Rockies need to solve before next season.

An overhaul of the entire pitching staff should be a main priority. There were signs that the reliever corps was doing its best after starters were seemingly pulled so early in starts.

Pitching must be better next season

Why? Those starters were not able to go deep into their starts. When you are having to go out within the first three or four innings to pull starters, that puts an extra bit of pressure on the relievers to make solid pitches.

Next season, that cannot just happen so much.

The speed element is there, too. Those young players who made their mark on the Rockies this season can come back and keep pushing their efforts forward.

Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has done a really good job of imparting his wisdom and guidance to these players. They all know where Schaeffer stands and it's their jobs to go out there and deliver.

Getting back to the World Series looks like a major job ahead for the franchise. The work is taking place right now. Fall postseason baseball will be most welcome for those long-suffering fans who keep coming out and cheering their hearts out at Coors Field.
