While overall record is not so good, some Colorado Rockies players are putting up decent numbers.
On Wednesday night, the Colorado Rockies will close out their three-game series at Wrigley Field in Chicago against the Chicago Cubs. Can the Rockies continue hitting at a decent clip, like they have done recently?
From a statistical standpoint, despite the season record not being good, there are things that stand out on the Rockies' side of the ledger.
Troy Johnston is heading up the Colorado offense at this point, according to data provided by the Rockies' communications team. Johnston is hitting .312 with three home runs and 34 RBIs. Johnson also has 21 doubles to his name as the Rockies are rolling toward the All-Star break.
If you are looking for some power hitters in the Colorado lineup, then look no further than catcher Hunter Goodman. He has 20 home runs to his name along with his 37 RBIs, which are the most on the Rockies' roster this season.
TJ Rumfield Keeps Showing Out
TJ Rumfield just hit his 10th home run on Tuesday night in a Rockies win. Rumfield joined Trevor Story as the only Colorado players who have homered at least 10 times within games leading into the All-Star break as rookies.
Rumfield also has amassed 36 RBIs, too. and has 14 doubles and two triples to his credit. Colorado has a team batting average as of Wednesday night at .252. Opponents, though, are hitting .287, which means they are in the driver's seat a whole lot against the Rockies' rotation.
Right-handed pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano tops the Colorado pitching staff with a 7-4 record and a 4.79 ERA. In 14 starts this season, Sugano has given up 13 home runs, walked 13 and stuck out 41 opposing hitters.
Breaking down the team's record month-by-month, the Rockies were 14-18 in March and April, 8-20 in May, and are currently 6-8 in June. Things have to improve for the ballclub right now if they want to have a winning record.
Cole Carrigg Is One Hot Rockie
Let's also take a look at what rookie infielder-outfielder Cole Carrigg has been doing in his first MLB season. Carrigg, who was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque, smoked his third home run this season out of Wrigley Field on Monday night.
Carrigg became the 15th rookie player in franchise history to hit a home run at Wrigley Field. He also is just the second switch hitter in the Modern era (since 1901) to put together one triple and three home runs in their first seven games.
Who else has done this? Houston Astros broadcaster and former MLB player Geoff Blum, who turned the trick while being a member of the Montreal Expos back in 1999.
Pitcher Jimmy Herget Reinstated off IL
A couple of moves by the Rockies on Wednesday afternoon.
The ballclub reinstated pitcher Jimmy Herget from the 15-day Injured List. To make room for Herget, the team optioned right-handed pitcher Seth Halvorsen to Triple-A Albuquerque.
