The Kansas City Royals congratulated both Noah Cameron and Jac Caglianone during their current series against the Miami Marlins.
The Kansas City Royals have not had the season anyone was hoping for. After Wednesday's loss against the Miami Marlins, they now sit at 62-78 on the year, well out of postseason contention.
However, the month of August was a good one for Kansas City. It included a nine-game winning streak that helped them improve their record to a more respectable mark, and standout performances from two players in particular in Jac Caglianone and Noah Cameron. This week the Royals recognized both players for what they accomplished.
"Congratulations to Noah Cameron and Jac Caglianone, our August Pitcher and Player of the Month award winners!" the Royals wrote on X.
The honor for both players is well deserved. As for Caglianone, the 23-year-old had an impressive month that showed the Royals exactly what to anticipate from him in the future. Across 24 games he hit .411 with a .429 on-base percentage, 1.113 OPS, six home runs and 26 RBIs.
Drafted sixth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, Caglianone's rise has been one of the best individual stories in Kansas City this year, and even in a lost season he offers genuine hope for what 2027 could look like for this organization.
As for Cameron, his month of August was entirely unexpected. The 27-year-old southpaw entered the month simply fighting to keep a rotation spot, only in the mix because of how much turnover the pitching staff has endured this season.
He took full advantage of every opportunity. Across five starts he allowed just seven earned runs across 33 2/3 innings, collecting 24 strikeouts while issuing just nine walks. He also picked up four wins along the way, keeping the Royals competitive every time he took the ball and giving manager Matt Quatraro a dependable option at the top of the rotation.
For Cameron, August matters a great deal for his 2027 outlook. The Royals will be searching for starting pitching help this offseason, but even amid that search he should earn an extended look given what he has shown.
On the year he owns a 3.98 ERA and has demonstrated the ability to go deep into games consistently. He is also under team control through the 2031 season, making him a cost-effective building block going forward.
The Royals are planning to compete again in 2027, and both Cameron and Caglianone should be meaningful contributors if what they showed in August carries over into next season.
