The Tigers took fan feedback into account and introduced two new brand jerseys that pay tribute to the past.
The Tigers’ PR department provided additional context on how these jerseys came together.
This announcement comes after an intensive 18-month process of asking fan opinions about alternate uniforms through surveys, focus groups, and A/B testing. Prior to this, we were one of two teams in baseball without an alternate uniform (excluding City Connects), and the hundreds of participating fans were clear: they want alternate uniforms. We also engaged players throughout the process, getting their feedback surrounding what they'd feel authentic wearing on the field."
Fans of all ages, demographics, and backgrounds spoke strongly about wanting alternate uniforms that stayed rooted in our tradition, while also doing something different. Many felt it was important to keep the Olde English D on one of the alternates, and that both should have details tying back to what was worn by the 1984 World Series Championship team.

If you look at the piping, it is a tip of the cap to the past.
1980's Tigers jerseys They also introduce a new cap which is two-tone and to me, it looks really sharp.

Ryan Gustafson, the President and CEO of Illitch Sports + Entertainment, also provide a statement about the new look.
“We’re proud to introduce these new uniforms, which have been years in the making. We believe it’s important to ask fans what matters to them, and constantly hear responses centered around getting more creative with merchandise, exploring alternate jerseys, incorporating more elements from uniforms worn by the 1984 team, and steering into the color orange.
“Our creative team developed hundreds of concepts that were debated by colleagues in the front office, fans in focus groups, and players in the clubhouse. What you see today is a result of nearly everyone being drawn to the alignment between our existing uniforms and new alternates, featuring the iconic Olde English ‘D’ and script Detroit, while bringing navy and orange to the forefront. These uniforms are thoroughly rooted in our tradition – fresh takes on Detroit classics – pushing us to evolve with authenticity in mind, just like our city has for centuries.”
The Tigers will continue to wear the City Connect jerseys, which made their debut back in 2024. The rotation will look something like this for when the team will wear them.
Outside of the Detroit Stars jerseys that the Tigers wore to celebrate the history of Detroit in the Negro Leagues, throughout the last twenty years, the Tigers jerseys have been relatively the same. There was the Spanish jerseys worn for "Fiesta Tigres" back in 2013.
Prior to that, in the 90's, the Tigers changed things up, going away from the classic 80's road jerseys with this first version of the road jerseys that included a new cap and striping on the jersey and the first apperance of the two-tone cap.
