I really need to pace myself, man. I’m getting way too excited over baseball right now, and we’re not even halfway through March.I wish there were more Tigers-related stuff that I could post about right now, but with Tarik Skubal officially announcing that he’s done pitching in the WBC, the only thing that this USA team has to offer is a former Tiger in Matthew Boyd. Boyd had a career year last year, but in this particular outing, he was pretty rough. I understand that the piggyback start mentality in these first few games, but Boyd was very clearly laboring and struggling to locate his pitches. Griffin Jax, whom I completely forgot got traded by the Twins last year, came in and got a huge double play.
The USA has now punched its ticket into the quarterfinals. Still, they have the opportunity to become the winners of their group with a win tomorrow against Italy, who has quietly put together a very good tournament and is still fighting for something. Mets youngster Nolan McLean will be making his first career WBC start.
