New hitting coaches and front office leaders arrive as the Tigers revamp their baseball operations and continue their data-driven approach.

The Detroit Tigers announced a wave of organizational changes on Wednesday, adding new voices to their Major League coaching staff and promoting several key figures within baseball operations.

Among the notable additions, Cody Asche joins the Tigers as Major League Assistant Hitting Coach after spending the 2025 season with the Baltimore Orioles in the same role. The former Phillies and White Sox third baseman transitioned into coaching in 2021, working his way up through Philadelphia’s system before becoming a key part of Baltimore’s player development group.

Asche’s arrival adds another progressive hitting mind to A.J. Hinch’s staff — one that blends player experience with analytical understanding, something Detroit has prioritized under Scott Harris.

Boyer Promoted, Sanders Joins from Orioles

Billy Boyer has been promoted to Major League Quality Coach, his third year in his second stint with the Tigers. Boyer previously led Detroit’s infield development efforts before spending a year coaching at the University of Washington. His return to the Major League level signals Detroit’s continued emphasis on infield defense and fundamentals.

The Tigers also announced the hiring of Anthony Sanders as First Base Coach, coming over from Baltimore, where he spent the last six seasons in the same capacity. Sanders brings extensive experience in player development and outfield instruction, and is well-known for his base running expertise.

    Front Office Restructuring

Beyond the dugout, Detroit made several significant front-office moves that reflect an increasingly data-driven direction.

Dr. Georgia Giblin has been promoted to Vice President, Health & Performance, expanding her oversight of all health and player development programs. Giblin has been a leading voice in the organization’s integration of performance science since arriving in 2021.

The Tigers also hired Alex Smith as Vice President, Baseball Strategy after 11 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, where he was most recently the Major League Strategy Coach. Smith will oversee baseball strategy, pro scouting, acquisitions, and advance work — a role that continues to merge analytics with traditional scouting under Harris’ leadership.

Additionally, Christian Hook has been promoted to Director, Pitching Evaluation, following his impactful work with Detroit’s development system since joining from Driveline in 2022.

    Scouting and Development Additions

On the amateur and international scouting fronts, Brad Ciolek joins the organization as Director, International Scouting, following two seasons with the Nationals and over a decade with the Orioles. He replaces longtime scouting executive Tom Moore, who transitions into a Senior Advisor role and will continue to oversee key projects, including the Dominican Republic Academy.

Finally, Theo Hooper joins the Tigers as Assistant Director, Amateur Scouting, after four seasons with the Texas Rangers. His background across multiple organizations — from Tampa Bay to the Cape Cod League: reflects the Tigers’ growing blend of youth and experience within baseball operations.
