The Chicago White Sox are celebrating Pope Leo XIV's fandom with a special giveaway, $5 concessions, and a Pope themed experience at Rate Field on Tuesday night.
If you've been considering attending a Chicago White Sox game at Rate Field, consider this your sign to head to the ballpark on Tuesday. The White Sox will be conducting a special giveaway to celebrate Pope Leo XIV's White Sox fandom, with a day fully themed around the Pope.
The ballpark giveaway will be a limited edition White Sox Pope hat for every fan in attendance. The national anthem will be performed on the organ by Nancy Faust. Play ball will be announced by former White Sox pitcher "The Pope" Donn Pall. And the ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by Sister Mary Jo Sobieck of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield.
The in-game features will also be a unique experience, including a fifth inning "peace be with you" in a playful nod to the Catholic Mass tradition. Fans will be greeting those around them and sharing their pride for the city of Chicago and White Sox baseball.
Oh, and did we mention that it's $5 Tuesday? That means the White Sox are rolling out a $5 concessions menu, including Miller Lite and Modelo draft beers, Garrett popcorn, Vienna hot dogs or Polishes, Beggars Pizza, nachos, and Coca Cola products. Not sure you could draw up a better day at the ballpark.
Pope Leo XIV's White Sox fandom has been a marvel to witness ever since he was elected by the conclave. We have photos and videos of Pope Leo XIV attending the 2005 World Series. We have him walking around the Vatican in a White Sox hat. We even have interactions between the Pope and White Sox legends like A.J. Pierzynski, where he confirmed that he's been watching the 2026 team become the story of baseball.
So when the White Sox take on the Cincinnati Reds at 6:40 p.m. CT on Tuesday night, it may just be a holy day of obligation for White Sox fans in attendance.
After all, when the Pope's team is playing, so missing the game probably isn't an option.
