The Chicago White Sox finally broke through away from home, taking down the Baltimore Orioles for their first road series win since early May.
Home runs from shortstop Colson Montgomery and outfielder Junior Perez powered the Chicago White Sox to a seven-run third inning and a 9-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.
The early lead allowed the White Sox to cruise behind Erick Fedde, who worked five innings of three-run baseball before turning things over to Tyler Schweitzer. Schweitzer tossed four scoreless innings out of the White Sox bullpen, earning the first MLB save of his career in the process.
The White Sox will not have another off day until July 6, making every inning and every day like Tuesday, where Will Venable can give his bullpen some much-needed rest, incredibly important. But more than anything, it's about the White Sox continuing to win games and extend their lead in the AL Central.
Chicago now holds a 2.0-game advantage over the Cleveland Guardians and have finally snapped their streak of road series losses.
The White Sox had lost seven straight road series, with their last series win away from home coming May 1-3 at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres. With Tuesday's victory, the White Sox have officially claimed the series over the Orioles and will look to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon as Noah Schultz returns from the IL to take the ball.
Before Monday, the White Sox were 1-15 over their previous 16 games against the Orioles. Baltimore has been a team that's had Chicago's number in recent years. The White Sox hadn't won a series against the Orioles since July 2021. But in a season where everything just feels different and seems to be coming up White Sox, Chicago finally got the job done.
The White Sox are now 45-39 on the year, with a remarkable 28-14 record at Rate Field. They've also won 10 consecutive home series. But a big part of Chicago turning the corner and beginning to separate itself as a legitimate playoff contender was always going to be playing better baseball on the road. If the White Sox can even play close to .500 away from home for the rest of the 2026 season, they'll be in a great position to win the AL Central and reach the playoffs.
This series in Baltimore was a big step in that direction. The offense appears to be firing on all cylinders, and as long as White Sox starting pitchers can keep the team in games, this lineup is capable of erasing deficits in a hurry.
