The White Sox finalize their 26-man Opening Day roster, with a few notable decisions shaping the bench, bullpen, and overall roster construction heading into Thursday’s opener.

The Chicago White Sox have set their Opening Day roster for the 2026 season and made the final set of transactions necessary to get down to 26 players.

On Wednesday afternoon, the White Sox placed utility man Brooks Baldwin and catcher Kyle Teel on the injured list and designated catcher Korey Lee and infielder Curtis Mead for assignment.

Prelander Berroa, Drew Thorpe, and Mike Vasil, all of whom are recovering from Tommy John surgery, were also placed on the injured list.

The roster is right in line with what was expected, with the only real surprise being the inclusion of six outfielders. The White Sox opted to keep Tristan Peters, whom they acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash earlier this offseason, rather than Curtis Mead—an infielder with upside who provided some defensive versatility off the bench.

Mead will have to clear waivers before the White Sox can assign him to the minor leagues. The same thing goes for Lee, who was replaced on the active roster by Reese McGuire in the final week of spring training. Teel's hamstring injury seemed like it would open the door for Lee to make the team, but the White Sox clearly weren't satisfied with what he brought to the table as a backup catcher.

The versatility of Luisangel Acuña was likely a factor there. If needed, Acuña can always move to the infield. But the White Sox clearly valued having another left-handed bat among their outfielders. Acuña, Austin Hays, Derek Hill, and Everson Pereira are all right-handed, while Peters provides another lefty off the bench.

On the pitching side of things, the starting rotation fell in line as expected, and Rule 5 Draft pick Jedixson Paez earned a roster spot with Vasil going to the IL.

As expected, Tyler Gilbert becomes the third left-handed pitcher in the White Sox bullpen, joining Chris Murphy and Sean Newcomb.

Below is a full look and positional breakdown of the 26-man roster that will begin the regular season with a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon.
