The Chicago White Sox have added right-hander Osvaldo Bido after a waiver claim from Atlanta, continuing to adjust the bullpen.

The Chicago White Sox have made another roster move, continuing to cycle through pitchers in search of sustainable innings.

Prior to Saturday afternoon’s game against the Athletics in Sacramento, the White Sox claimed right-handed pitcher Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the Atlanta Braves.

Bido, a 30-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, has logged 203.2 innings over the past four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Athletics, and Braves.

In six appearances out of Atlanta’s bullpen in 2026, Bido threw 10 innings and allowed seven runs, good for a 6.30 ERA. His career ERA sits at 5.13. The best season of his career came in 2024 with the Athletics, when he went 5-3 with a 3.41 ERA across 63.1 innings, serving as both a part-time starter and long reliever. That swingman role is currently vacant on the White Sox roster following Mike Vasil’s injury.

Bido was designated for assignment by the Braves on April 16 and now lands with the White Sox, who cleared a spot on the 40-man roster by transferring right-hander Prelander Berroa to the 60-day injured list.

A move like this isn’t really about the quality of arm the White Sox are getting or any long-term upside. It’s about getting through a 162-game season. Much of what the White Sox have tried in the bullpen this year hasn’t worked, and they need innings wherever they can find them. Bido may not be a high-end arm, but even if his stay is brief, he figures to be leaned on for multiple innings to help preserve some of the younger pitchers and keep the bullpen fresh for close games.

Bido is out of minor league options, which is why Atlanta designated him for assignment. He has not yet been activated or officially assigned by the White Sox, but when he is, it will have to be to the major league roster with a corresponding move to follow. If the White Sox want to keep Doug Nikhazy and maintain three left-handers in the bullpen, Lucas Sims could be a potential odd man out.

Many of these bullpen arms — Bido included — are likely here on a temporary basis.

The White Sox opened their West Coast road trip with a 9-2 win over the Athletics, and the offense finally showed signs of life with 15 hits. That’s an encouraging development, but with just one off day between now and April 29, continued bullpen churn is inevitable if this team is going to build any kind of momentum before the end of the month.
