The White Sox are headed back to prime time as a pivotal AL Central matchup against Cleveland lands on FOX Saturday Baseball.
It's no secret that the Chicago White Sox have been getting a lot more attention in 2026 now that they're arguably the best story in all of baseball. The White Sox seem to be a talking point on every national baseball show. They've skyrocketed up the power rankings, and there's an overwhelming sense of respect for what Chicago has accomplished this season.
And hopefully that attention won't be going anywhere as we get deeper into the summer and closer to the end of the regular season. The White Sox will only command more eyeballs as they sit in playoff position and atop the AL Central. Come August and September, the divisional race could be must-see TV.
One network is banking on that being the case.
FOX has officially picked up the White Sox' August 8 matchup against the Cleveland Guardians for its Saturday night broadcast.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. CT. That also happens to be the night that World Series-winning manager Ozzie Guillen will have No. 13 retired by the White Sox.
I think there's a resounding hope and belief that the White Sox will still be in the race come August. Recent performances against the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers have shown that the White Sox are legit and aren't going anywhere. By then, they may have even added some reinforcements at the trade deadline.
One of the biggest questions surrounding that game will be whether or not Jose Ramirez is available to play. Ramirez underwent surgery after landing on the injured list over the weekend with a fractured left hamate bone. It's the first major injury blow Cleveland has suffered this season, but it's a significant one and is certain to play a role in the AL Central race.
The White Sox and Guardians have not yet faced each other this season, but the two teams will get their first look at one another next week when Cleveland comes to Rate Field for a three-game series.
Given MLB's current playoff rules, which replaced Game 163 with the head-to-head tiebreaker, every matchup against the Guardians could carry enormous weight. If the AL Central race comes down to the wire, these games may ultimately prove to be the difference between winning the division and settling for a Wild Card spot or an early vacation.
It's been a long time since the White Sox have played in a meaningful game of this magnitude, and this one will certainly feel like it. A divisional matchup on Fox Saturday Baseball. What more could you ask for?
