Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas has been rewarded for his breakout 2026 season with the first All-Star selection of his MLB career.

On Saturday night, the rosters for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game became official. The fan vote was finalized, and the reserves and pitchers for both leagues were announced.

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas was named to the American League All-Star roster. It is the first All-Star selection of his career and a well-earned honor recognizing his breakout season.

White Sox fans, however, may be disappointed to hear that no other White Sox players were named to the team.

No Colson Montgomery. No Davis Martin. No Munetaka Murakami. But that’s a conversation for another time, and one that I will entertain at length.

For now, it’s about Miguel Vargas.

Prior to Saturday night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, White Sox manager Will Venable informed the team that Vargas would be the organization’s representative in Philadelphia.

Entering play on Saturday night, Vargas was batting .248 with 20 home runs, 55 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and an .854 OPS on the season. He is one of three White Sox players with 20-plus home runs, and his 3.2 fWAR is the most of any White Sox player and the 18th best in all of baseball.

Beyond the stats, which already make him more than deserving, Vargas has been a tremendous leader for the White Sox. He has stepped up with Munetaka Murakami on the injured list and has been a key piece of Chicago’s clubhouse chemistry. He energizes this group, and he has turned himself into one of the toughest outs in the American League every time he steps into the box.

The honor also represents a remarkable step forward in Vargas’ career. Once a highly regarded prospect, his path to becoming an established big leaguer was far from linear. He struggled to find consistent playing time with the Dodgers and arrived in Chicago with a nightmare 2024 season.

Now, Vargas is not just an everyday player or a key piece of the White Sox future. He is an American League All-Star, and his development into one of the most valuable players on a first-place team has become one of the defining stories of Chicago’s season.

So a day like today certainly brings mixed feelings for White Sox fans. It’s unfortunate to see Chicago once again passed over with All-Star selections and once again have just one player in the Midsummer Classic. But it’s impossible not to feel happy for Miguel Vargas, considering all he has overcome throughout his career and everything he has brought to the White Sox in 2026.
