In just over one month, the Chicago White Sox will be putting on a can't-miss promotional event at Rate Field.
After a July 11 home game against the Athletics, the White Sox will host an alumni home run derby, with Jose Canseco, Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Leury Garcia, Scott Podsednik, and Daniel Palka announced this week as the six contestants.
Each of those selected participants is an incredible choice for a unique reason.
Canseco is one of the most famous and, obviously, polarizing home run hitters to ever play the game.
Podsednik couldn't be less of a home run hitter despite having one of the most iconic home runs in franchise history.
Beckham will be a must-see attraction because of his status as a fan favorite and his position with the White Sox broadcasting team.
Garcia has a beloved postseason home run of his own, and Daniel Palka remains something of a cult-classic White Sox favorite thanks to his unconventional swing and forgotten power surge in 2018.
Ramirez was just back on the field for Team Cuba in the World Baseball Classic at 44 years old despite taking his last MLB at-bat a decade ago.
It's the perfect group for a postgame event. Just enough nostalgia without recycling too many of the same old faces. And while the White Sox will celebrate the past after the game, they'll celebrate the future beforehand. The 2026 MLB Draft will get underway on July 11 at 12:30 p.m.
The White Sox have changed the originally scheduled first pitch to 1:10 p.m., giving fans the opportunity to watch Chicago make its selection with the No. 1 overall pick, take in the ballgame, and then enjoy the alumni derby afterward.
It will be an all encompassing organizational event. If there's ever been a no-brainer day to get out to the ballpark, this is it.
