The New York Yankees are about to finally end their Jasson Dominguez conundrum.

There was a time when New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez was viewed as one of the top prospects in baseball. He was perceived as a five-tool talent who had the ability to become one of the very best players in the game.

Then, we saw him in the major leagues, and we wondered where all of that chatter came from.

Dominguez is anything but a five-tool player. In fact, he is one of the worst defensive outfielders we've seen wear pinstripes, and he does not have nearly the type of offensive ceiling that many touted.

There were people claiming Dominguez could be the next Mickey Mantle, only to see him slash .241/.309/.388 over 751 plate appearances since entering the big leagues in 2023.

Is it a small sample size? Perhaps, but anyone who has watched Dominguez flounder at the dish over the last couple of years can tell you that he is, at best, a complementary offensive piece rather than the anchor of a lineup.

And with Spencer Jones establishing himself as one of the Yankees' top young cornerstones as well as Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger owning the corner outfield spots, Dominguez's time in the Bronx is coming to a swift close.

New York prioritized Dominguez over Jones for quite some time, even through much of 2026. But it then became obvious that Jones was the superior talent.

The Yankees even went out and got Heliot Ramos — who is under club control through 2029 — at the MLB trade deadline, and he is currently on tap to be New York's fourth outfielder next spring.

That leaves no room for Dominguez, who will now likely be floated in trade talks this coming offseason.

Dominguez no longer has the value he once did now that everyone has seen him up close and personal. He doesn't really have a clear-cut position because of how bad he is in the field, and outside of his decent 9.6 percent walk rate in 2025, he has shown very little potential offensively.

Is Dominguez still somewhat intriguing to other teams? Sure. He's only 23 years old, he has outstanding speed and he owns a lifetime .276/.373/.445 slash line in the minor leagues. Some club out there would be willing to give him a chance.

But the days of Dominguez potentially being the centerpiece of a blockbuster trade are long gone.

Given Dominguez's defensive struggles and his lack of a path to regular playing time, I do expect the Yankees to shop him this winter, and I would be genuinely surprised if he were competing for a spot on New York's 26-man roster come springtime.
