NASCAR Issues Bulletin on Brake Adjustments Before Cup Races
Oct 14, 2026 5:25 PM
NASCAR issued a notice to media members advising of a change in procedure to how brake rotor changes are handled during a race weekend.
This comes after several brake rotor issues at World Wide Technology Raceway Gateway and ahead of a race weekend at Phoenix Raceway where rotor issues could arise again.
It also comes after Denny Hamlin was vocal about starting a race at Iowa Speedway with a brake issue NASCAR wouldn't allow them to fix before the race.
Here is what NASCAR sent to media members Wednesday:
"Following a review of brake issues involving some of the race teams at Gateway, NASCAR has shared with teams the following update involving allowable adjustments post-P&Q.
At Phoenix Raceway, Teams will be given the option to remove and replace Front Brake Rotors and Pads only, following P/Q on Saturday. No other brake system components are permitted to be changed during this process.
Note: Teams will be permitted to inspect rear rotors, per normal procedures, during the pre-race adjustments period on Sunday. Any subsequent rotor issues found at that time will managed on a case-by-case basis."
