MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Ryan Blaney will have a new pit crew when the Chase for the NASCAR Cup Series championship begins this Sunday at Darlington Raceway.

Blaney, the No. 2-seeded driver in the postseason, will get Team Penske teammate Austin Cindric's pit crew, starting with Sunday's Cook Out Southern 500. The No. 15-seeded driver will get his teammate's pit crew as the postseason starts.

This move comes after Blaney's pit crew has cost him triple-digit positions on the track throughout the first 26 races, including 88 positions in the first eight races. That led to Penske moving jackman Landon Honeycutt to Josh Berry's No. 21 team and having Graham Stoddard take over.

Stoddard came from Noah Gragson's No. 4 team, just like Blaney's rear tire changer, Justin Fox. Penske tabbed Fox to join Blaney's team ahead of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He replaced Zach Price.

Despite the changes, issues still persisted on pit road.

Even as recently as the Dollar Tree 301 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, his crew had an issue that dropped him from first to outside the top-10. They ultimately won but only after crew chief Jonathan Hassler made a two-tire call to get Blaney the win.

Blaney has three wins this season – Phoenix Raceway in March, EchoPark Speedway Atlanta in July and New Hampshire in August – while Cindric has yet to win. Blaney finished the regular season in second as the closest driver to Denny Hamlin in points, while Cindric eked into the Chase after entering the regular season finale close to the cutline.

Heading into the Chase, both Blaney and Cindric look to be fast at Darlington after running well there recently. In the spring, they both finished inside the top-10.
