Daniel Suarez has extended his contract with Spire Motorsports for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Spire confirmed Suarez's extension, which had been reported before the team's announcement Tuesday. He'll drive the No. 7 Chevrolet for season two in a tenure that seemed destined to be a one-and-done, stopgap season for the team.
Suarez joined Spire Motorsports for the 2026 season after bowing out of Trackhouse Racing where he was the foundational driver for the organization. After lagging behind teammate Ross Chastain at Trackhouse and the No. 7 team playing second fiddle to the other Spire cars in 2025 and needing a driver late into silly season, getting Suarez seemed like a holdover option before getting someone else in 2027.
Instead, Suarez has run the 2026 season dead set on making sure that wasn't the case.
In 2026, Suarez has scored a win, three top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes through 32 races with an average start of 14.3 and an average finish of 15.2. His average finish is the best he has ever scored in a single season by one whole position (16.2 in 2017) and his average start is on-par with his career-best in 2019 (14.2).
Suarez was as high as eighth in the points standings about midway through the season. He entered the Chase in the No. 11 seed.
Although Suarez has dropped to 14th now six races into the Chase, he has stayed consistent with three 14th-place finishes and a 13th-place finish in the last four races.
Suarez has not only elevated himself but also Spire's No. 7 team. With Justin Haley as their driver, the team finished the 2025 season with no wins, a top-five finish and two top-10 finishes with an average finish of 22.2, average start of 23.1 and a 31st-place points finish. They finished the first 26 races 30th in points and was only as high as 23rd all season.
Suarez has been a massive improvement for the team, warranting the extension for 2027.
Suarez is entering his 11th season in the NASCAR Cup Series. He raced for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2017 and 2018, Stewart-Haas Racing in 2019, Gaunt Bros. Racing in 2020 and Trackhouse from 2021 to 2025 before he joined Spire.
Suarez earned his first two career wins with Trackhouse -- at Sonoma Raceway in June 2022 and EchoPark Speedway Atlanta in February 2024 -- before earning his third with Spire in May's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Phoenix Raceway is next after Suarez's extension. He started fourth in the spring race.
