CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Katherine Legge is set to try to become the sixth driver in history to compete in the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
Legge confirmed she will attempt "The Double" this year. She will race HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing's No. 11 Chevrolet in the Indy 500, before flying to Charlotte Motor Speedway to race Team Live Fast's No. 78 Chevrolet in the Coca-Cola 600.
"It's very unique," Legge told FS2. "I don't think an opportunity like this comes about more than once so I jumped at it. I was grateful to be back at the Indy 500... and just to be able to do this and then both on the same day is crazy but really awesome."
Legge is looking to join the likes of Kyle Larson, Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon and John Andretti as the only drivers to complete the The Double.
A grueling challenge, Stewart is the only driver to complete all 1,100 scheduled miles of The Double. In 2001, he finished sixth in the Indy 500 and third in the Coca-Cola 600.
Larson most recently attempted The Double in 2024 and 2025. After a rain storm postponed the Indy 500 and caused him to miss the Coca-Cola 600 in 2024, he crashed out of both races the following year.
To follow in their footsteps, Legge will need to hope the 500 gets done in time to make the 1-hour, 8-minute flight in time to make the start of the 600.
"It's a problem that's above my paygrade, luckily, but the logistics... is like a military operation, so I will go where they tell me to go," Legge said.
Entering her attempt at The Double, Legge has four starts in the Indy 500 and 19 NTT INDYCAR Series starts overall. Meanwhile, in the NASCAR Cup Series, she has eight starts in the NASCAR Cup Series, including three on an oval – but none at Charlotte. Legge showed promise last year with two top-20 finishes: 19th at the Chicago Street Course and 17th in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.
Legge's other racing credentials include a win in the Six Hours at The Glen in 2017 and three other wins in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.
Legge is likely to make more starts in the NASCAR Cup Series beyond the Coca-Cola 600. However, those races haven't been announced yet.
